Demographic research on lesbians and gays emerges from shadows
Washington Post ^ | March 1, 2013 | Carol Morello

A few salient facts are known about the Americans whose lives might be changed by a Supreme Court ruling on same-sex marriage expected this summer.

About one in five gay and lesbian couples are raising children that are under age 18. Same-sex couples are less likely than traditional married couples to have health insurance covering them both. One in 10 men with a male partner or spouse is a military veteran. As many as 6 million Americans, roughly 2 percent of the population, have a parent who is lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgender.

These nuggets of demographic insight into same-sex couples were contained in an amicus brief filed last week in connection with two cases before the Supreme Court on the constitutionality of California’s gay marriage ban and the Defense of Marriage Act...

--snip--

Some of the controversy is rooted in a study done in the late 1940s. Sexologist Alfred Kinsey wrote in a passing reference that 10 percent of men had had same-sex experiences. That figure has stuck, in part, according to Gates, because gay activists cited it to make the case they could not be ignored.

Some opponents of gay marriage also say more research should be done into gay demographics, in part to correct common misperceptions on the size of the gay community. In several surveys, Gallup has found that Americans believe, on average, that 25 percent of the population is gay, several times higher than any research estimate.

“I think serious data on this is important to inform the debate,” said Peter Sprigg, a senior fellow at the Family Research Council, which has argued that same-sex marriage is harmful to society. “People have an exaggerated view of how many homosexuals there are in the population. They don’t realize what a relatively small population it is.”...

Please don’t fall for the Leftist slander that conservatives hate homosexuals. That notion is used by the Left as a way of avoiding honest debate about the issue. Most conservatives believe in “live and let live,” and
conservative Christians are called to love our neighbors as ourselves.

Speaking for myself, what I hate is the way our society is being brainwashed into believing that the disorder of same sex attraction is not a disorder at all, but rather just another flavor of normal. As a Catholic, I believe that there is nothing sinful in being attracted to somebody of the same sex and that acting upon homosexual urges is a very grave sin. But forcing people to accept a mental illness such as homosexuality as normal and healthy exceeds sinfulness. It is evil.

I doubt that you will get hammered around here for loving your daughter and believing that she was born the way she is. But if you do, we have your back.

Regards,
Jeff

Hey Jeff!
I was reading the responses from the woman whose daughter is day and ended up thinking the same thing that you so eloquently stated.

What also strikes me is that we have a hot-button issue that is discussed here using respectful tones, overwhelmingly, and kindness and decency. I can only imagine what the response would be like at the Daily Kos or Democrat Underground if there was an anguished posting about a child who is gay... I can imagine the vitriol, the swearing, the personal attacks.

Which, by the way, is both a strength and weakness. The same emotional crudeness which propels the left makes them berserkers in political battle, while we are thinking about the humanity of our opposition. It’s something I’ve seen ever since I became aware of the conservative-left split back in the Reagan years. Our decency makes us easy targets, and our moral virtue makes it tough for us to respond in kind to attacks.

God help us.

>> Please don’t hate my kid.

No one hates your daughter.

The issue is statism and the Leftist goal to subordinate individual rights. Forcing the citizens to support and service homosexual behavior is just another step towards the goal of communism. The Left is exploiting homosexuality.

My youngest has now become interested in the possibility that there is a God and how he manifests himself in this world.

She is in her 20s and just now is becoming interested in the possibility that there is a God?

Did she attend government K-12 schools?

That fact threw her into women’s sports and the association with the more hardcore looking women you mention.

I read Tammy Bruce's book ( who is a lesbian), and she states that in nearly all cases of homosexuality there has been childhood sexual abuse.

Wouldn’t Tammy Bruce be better off getting therapy to deal with the abuse rather than just choosing to be gay?

That seems like a better long-term solution.

Your Posting reminds me of what Crassus said to Antoninus in the movie Spartacus: “My tastes include snails and oysters....eh Antoninus?....Antoninus!?”

I hope your tastes will never evolve into liking both Kiwi Fruit and Egg Plant! (snicker :} )

and NO study have proven the immutable trait myth.

this is all about a recreational sex fetish BEHAVIOR.

if you legalize homosexuals sex fetishes to justify marriage then polygamy MUST be allowed.

The “possibility” that there is a God?

Had she been properly raised, she would know that there is zero possibility that there isn’t a
God.

She will have to give up her chosen sexuality to come to God; he said so in his word. Eternal life just isn’t for everyone.

Oh please.....physical features common to lesbians? Noses of a particular shape, cheeks and chin that you describe in such non-specific terms they could be applied to ANY woman based on the subjective interpretation of the viewer. What exactly does a “determined” chin look like?

As for PCOS, there are many women who have it and are married, have children (granted sometimes with difficulty in conceiving) and they are 100% heterosexual. Unless you can supply a corroborative link from a reliable source I’m calling nonsense on this as well as your physical features assertions.

No one is born homosexual

That's not true. There is strong evidence for epigenetic effects. Environment may also have something to do with it. People are born with all kinds of abnormalities. Homosexuality isn't an exception. It's part of the rule in nature.

The problem comes in trying to normalize it. Imagine demanding that every blind person could really see. That's the homosexual agenda. Otherwise what you have are people with challenges, that can be managed and perhaps overcome. That's where the choice comes in.

Well, there is this:

http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/15533359

There have been other studies that do not show a link, and the study subjects were women experiencing infertility, both heterosexual and lesbian, so not a randomly selected group. Not definitive, but suggestive. The study does seem to be the largest one in existence, at least from what I glean quickly from PubMed.

Yes, I have known straight women with PCOS.

In my youth, I took a karate class where I was the only straight woman, and socialized some with my classmates. Many of them - not all of them - had the facial features I mentioned, and many - not all - had a high waist/hip ratio, even though physically fit. Of course straight women also exhibit these features sometimes. It is the FREQUENCY of these features in the relative populations that differs in my observation. I see them a lot when I read about prominent lesbians or radical leftist nuns. Of course by now I am sure I do experience some confirmation bias.

It is hard to describe faces in words - Sallie Ride would be fairly representative of what I mean.
