"The popular media narrative is that this country has shifted away from conservative ideals, as evidenced by the last two presidential elections. Thats what they think. Thats what say. That might be true if Republicans had actually nominated conservative candidates in 2008 and 2012," Gov. Rick Perry (R-Texas) said in his address at CPAC this afternoon. Perry also slammed President Obama for undocumented illegal immigration being released from detention centers due to sequestration cuts. "This president's posture, it'd be laughable if he hadn't taken it one step too far, dangerously releasing criminals onto our streets to make a political point," Perry told the crowd at CPAC. "When you have a federally-sponsored jailbreak, and don't get confused, that's exactly what that is -- when you've had a federally-sponsored jailbreak, you've crossed the line from politics of spin to politics as a craven form of cynicism."

I’m ready to give Rick Perry another look.
Didn’t know Perry could remember more than one thing.
If it all breaks apart, I wonder which/how many states will side up with Texas. That will the team to be on.
Well, I will say that I’m not well versed on Texas politics. I don’t know anything about Dewhurst, and I like what I’m hearing from Ted Cruz, to date.
No politician is perfect, and that includes Perry. But his wealth of experience and his conservatism make me believe he would be a fine president.
I’d prefer to see us taking on Obama and Reid and Pelosi. They are the real dangers to America.
Ted Cruz is taking on the Democrats...unafraid to stand up to the Pharisee Feinstein. I can dig that....
He has the old dog Cornyn close in tow now.”
Sure hope Cruz doesn’t stop too quickly. If he does, Cornyn is going to have a very flat nose. Will be interesting to see if old John can manage his fake face of conservatism until election next year.
Cruz definitely is scoring some points based on all the flak that is out there flying around. Between Cruz and Paul it is even more interesting to watch McLaim scramble to try and be someone of relevance.
Bump to what you said!!
Don’t get me started on this again.
Perry is a hairy-chested man; what conservatives need as a leader. People bitch about his “strategic fencing” statements and some of his weakness in the debates.
Don’t get me started on the “strategic fencing”. I live here. I got to the Big Bend a lot. People who think we can build a fence there that will be effective have never been where I’ve been.
The Bush/Rove contingent are big time against Perry.
Then, there’s what we have now. Rather have Obama than Perry?
What’s the matter with people?
Someone on this thread was curious that Perry could have more than one thought in his head at a time. Is that serious?!!
Texas is kicking most states’ butts in most ways. Perry’s the governor.
Seriously?
The Perry-haters are toxic, ignore them when they swagger up to denounce the Governor.
Perry supported his Lt. Governor. That relationship is different in TX. The Lt. Governor has a lot more power than most.
I supported Cruz at and before the Convention. Dewhurst beat himself. Everyone at the Convention knew it. That is why Perry was booed when he stumped for Dewhurst.
I guess it's never too early to begin marginalizing those on our side of the aisle...
LOL, is that the excuse?
Those who castigated him would be so happy if he were President now!
True, I'd also be thrilled if Romney or McPain were President or if W. Bush were still President. That doesn't make any of them conservatives and it doesn't make Rick one either.
Exactly.
What’s next Tiger Woods calls Charlie Sheen and Hugh Hefner womanizers?
So. What does that mean.
BUT after the primary, you're darned right I'm going to support our nominee, anyone who didn't helped put Obama in office.
I supported Perry in the caucus because he was a governor and he had governed TX very successfully and TX had an excellent record of job creation, which the US sorely needed.
But let's face it, he's not good enough--we must hold out for the perfect and in the meantime, we reelect Obama.
There have actually been Freepers say right here on FR that Obama was superior to Romney. I say that is insane.
