McCain: 'I don't understand' GOP filibuster on guns
Politico ^ | April 7, 2013 | Jennifer Epstein

Sen. John McCain says he doesn't understand the threats from some of his Republican colleagues to filibuster a bill on background checks to buy guns.

"I don't understand it," the Arizona Republican said on Sunday of the threat coming from Sen. Rand Paul,Sen. Ted Cruz, Sen. Mike Lee and nine other Republicans. "The purpose of the United States Senate is to debate and to vote and to let the people know where we stand.”

"What are we afraid of? ... If this issue is as important as we all think it is, why not take ... it up and debate?" McCain said on CBS's "Face the Nation."

It just dawned on me, this lament is coming from a guy who formed or joined the gang of 14, in order to preserve the filibuster against judicial nominees.

Anyway, McCain is a force aligned against the right to keep and bear arms, that's all you need to know. Well, that plus he is in favor of granting citizenship to people who are able successfully break immigration law for years.

Embarrassing to think he was ever the GOP nominee.

I’m so ashamed.

Wasn’t that was the GOP was peddling him as in 2008?

I knew he full well wasn’t - and voted for the Constitutional Party candidate.

The GOP was also telling me that Mittens Romney was also a “conservative” in 2012.

Hey, you asked where I got the idea. I’m just repeating what I’ve been told by people who are supposed to know oh-so-very-much more than I — people like the Round Mount of Failure, Karl Rove - whom that dumb stump-hole Hannity calls “The Architect.”

Architect of what, I have no idea.

And then there’s “National Journal” rating McCain as more conservative than others in the US Senate in 2010:

http://www.nationaljournal.com/magazine/mccain-s-shift-makes-him-senate-s-most-conservative-20110224

The American Conservative Union rates members of Congress - and they rated McCain as a “conservative” with a score over 80%.

So.... you asked where I got the idea?

Answer: From the people who claim to measure what is (and isn’t) “conservative.”

McCain’s been pushing the Q-Tip in too far again.

McCain is senile.

it is the effort to keep the records permanently. Permanent records mean registration.

McCain needs a senility check. Just what does his wife do with this useless idiot?

Gees, another clueless establishment Republican who doesn’t see that the country is melting down all around him. No wonder the media and the Democrats love this guy. He’s another of their useful idiots.

Where in the right tit of Odin did you ever get the utterly mistaken impression that John McCain is 'conservative', or that anyone here says he is???!?

That's a good question. I've seen this same comment about "conservatives" (always in quotes, donchaknow) on a few threads in the past couple days. It appears that the same people making those comments seem to think that the 13 Senators who have signed on to conduct this filibuster are elected members of the Libertarian party.

It's getting weird.

Exactly.
There is little to no difference between him and liberals.
And every candidate the GOP is talking of fielding is the same.

Wasn’t that was the GOP was peddling him as in 2008?

The GOP has been hijacked by the Republican left.

I’ve been told by people who are supposed to know oh-so-very-much more than I — people like the Round Mount of Failure, Karl Rove - whom that dumb stump-hole Hannity calls “The Architect.”

Karl Rove has been the strongest opponent of conservative Republicans I have ever seen, taking the fight to ANY conservative Republican, but holding fire against liberal Democrats.

And then there’s “National Journal” rating McCain as more conservative than others in the US Senate in 2010:

The National JOURNAL??? Hey, I know, why don't you cite Mother Jones....arguably one of the only publications to the left of National Journal. LOL

The American Conservative Union rates members of Congress - and they rated McCain as a “conservative” with a score over 80%.

ACU has been issuing suspect numbers for a while now. I'm not sure what's happening to them. I've seen them rate my RINO Georgia Senators highly. I'm wondering if ratings can be bought.

Three of the sources you have cited are liberal-leaning, and the fourth is suspect.

So, once again, I ask you: Where in the right tit of Odin did you ever get the utterly mistaken impression that John McCain is 'conservative', or that anyone here says he is???!?

The filibuster is essentially limitless debate. That’s what you want, right?

What I’m poking at is the habit of the die-hard social conservatives dismissing anyone who doesn’t toe the thump-the-book line of legislation as a “libertarian” and say “Not in MY Party!”

So far, what I’ve seen out of Rand Paul, Ted Cruz and Mike Lee is very encouraging. The “Old Guard” GOP has reason to be scared crapless. The Old Farts have gone along to get along all these years, delivering nothing but larger and larger government in every session of Congress. Now there are some kids who are threatening that there might actually be some WORK involved in serving in the US Senate.

WRONG-—McPain-—the purpose of the United States Senate is not to think up krap counter to the rights of citizens. Especially things that make it harder to defend home/property/self against idiots. Especially the idiots coming across your Arizona border. And BTW-—when are you Arizona folks gonna retire this dingbat?

McCain is the moron who did not understand “Joe the Plumber”.

He had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the concept of “from each to each”. He still does not get it.

We need to find out about his staffers.

IOW he wants us to be McCained.

he is going to thump his chest on some bs nuance (perhaps even dig up flag burning as a distraction) and then declare victory when he gives everything obama asked for.

We need to vidoes showing McCain’s senility in public for all to see.

The older I get, the more I've watched grow old and how they change with age and age changes them.

Many old men are easily controlled. Many willingly surrender to an easier way. Many are badly damaged. Many ran out of whatever motivated them to be the man they once claimed to be.

These things have all claimed McShame, assuming he didn't lose himself long ago, perhaps in Hanoi or more likely much earlier, while failing to become his daddy's boy.

Poor Johnny. He should have gone out on top instead of staying on past his expiration date to jump the shark.

The job of the United States Senate, you senile, decrepit, old *sshole, is to represent the WILL OF THE PEOPLE.

Retire and take up fishing, moron.
