Bob Dole Has Some Nerve
Breitbart.com ^ | 5/27/13 | Kerry Picket

Posted on 05/27/2013 2:15:28 PM PDT by paltz

Former Senate Majority Leader and 1996 GOP Presidential nominee Bob Dole excoriated the Republican Party on Fox News Sunday, saying the Party lacked new ideas and engaged in too much obstructionist activity in the upper chamber.

"They ought to put a sign on the National Committee doors that says 'Closed for repairs,' until New Year's Day next year and spend that time going over ideas and positive agendas," he said.

Additionally, Dole remarked that not only was he doubtful he could "make it" in today's Republican Party, but he believes Ronald Reagan and Richard Nixon could not make it either in the current GOP, saying, "Reagan couldn't have made it. Certainly, Nixon couldn't have made it, because he had ideas. We might've made it, but I doubt it."

Then he shouldn’t be going on TV and saying what he’s saying.

You’re being too kind to Nixon. His policies of affirmative action, OSHA, wage and price controls were bad ideas from the git-go. Didn’t need any wild-eyed liberals to distort them.-

Here’s a new idea: stop reaching across the aisle and creating gangs with known gun grabbing, amnesty granting, and out of control spending fascists

Bob Dole’s ideas of compromise are the reasons this country is on the edge of collapse. The Bob Dole’s of the past and present have certainly compromised this once great country.

"Bob Dole Says" and his 1996 GOP Convention Big Tent Freak Show was the straw that pushed this camel to voting Conservative Independent.

Reagan stood strong for what he knew was right. He never compromised with evil. Dole, Mccain....rino all don’t know you don’t compromise with the devil. They would have been in the back room making deals.

So we are supposed to use you as an example Bob?
Didn't you get your butt kicked in 1996?
Then why should we listen to you?

I see little point in criticizing Dole. He turns 90 and has forgotten how he operated while in office (and he’s been out 17 years now).

He is what he is....

He’s a Eisenhower Republican just as many in the party still are to this day. They cannot adjust to the open political warfare that Obama has thrust upon us.

The Eisenhower types are from a different era. A post Roosevelt bi partisan era in which the democrats essentially blew smoke up the GOPs arses and then thanked them for their patience and understanding while the GOP thanked them for thanking them.

Those days are long gone.... But Dole can’t change and he won’t. Give him some peace...

Bob Dole: unprincipled crony communist; K-Street lobbyist for other unprincipled crony communists. Whatever, he's an anti-American dipstick to the max.

Bob Dole: "Viagra made me taller."

Ya see, I just don’t see it that way. He’s a big boy and is willing to go on TV and spank conservatives by lying about the past. I don’t care if he’s old. He’s still lying and trying to revise history. There are/were old if not older conservative politicians who served in WWII and in our government. They didn’t cause half the damage that Dole did while he was in office.

I had to hold my nose and vote for him...I know what he thinks.

I just don’t want to trash him today. As a person he’s a good fellow...but as a politician I always saw him as a deal maker and unfortunately, that is not what we need now and he’s out of line saying what he said. But having said that I expected it from him and it’s no surprise.

I can tell you one thing with certainty...If Reagan was still alive he would have said the same thing I did. But Reagan would have said that every day of the week. I am only saying it today and will again on veterans day.

Dole is right in that he would not be welcome in my Republican party if it were still my party. I can appreciate Dole’s military service having a sole brother killed on Okinawa and myself just a couple of months away from the invasion of Japan. However, I do not bow to Dole as to my belief of the Constitution. The same feeling/attitude goes also for McCain.

I see little point in criticizing Dole.

Perhaps there is little point. But I'm gonna do it anyway, cause that's how I roll. ;D He chose to open his mouth and attack his own party while the scandal-plagued communist President is on his heels. What the hell Bob?

Nixon was a disaster so I hope he couldn't "make it" as a Republican today but the truth is he would fit right in with Bush/Romney et al.

The idea that "Today's Republicans are too far to the right for Ronald Reagan" is a BS NYTimes liberal meme. In repeating it Dole has exposed himself as an utterly contemptible piece of crap, or senile or both. Too much blood flow to certain areas of the body at the expense of the brain? Old Liddy is a lucky girl.

He has a good point about the worthless congressional Republicans having no ideas. However if the kind of ideas he wants are the kind of ideas the tenor of remarks imply that he wants, then he can go straight to hell.

I'm only going easy on him cause he's a WW2 vet. ;)

RE :”I see little point in criticizing Dole. He turns 90 and has forgotten how he operated while in office (and he’s been out 17 years now).”

The fact that he is 90 is not keeping him off TV mouthing off. He is not as senile as you seem to think he is.

I learned why Dole is upset w conservatives a month or so ago.
He is upset because Liz rolled out his wheelchair on the Senate floor to get Republicans to pass help a Global UN Disabilities Treaty with Dems, United Nation’s Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), and they voted against it. Dems played this up, the GOP channel ignored it. So Dole is steaming about it and going on TV trying to cause trouble.

Bob Dole was a big supporter of the AWDA in the 1990s too.
