Marco Rubio's Big Problem: Explaining His Immigration Shift
NPR ^ | 21 June 2013 | Frank James

Posted on 06/21/2013 5:28:44 PM PDT by Theoria

Sen. Marco Rubio has a problem. He has transformed from conservative hero to suspect in the eyes of many on the political right because he now supports "a path to citizenship" for people unlawfully in the U.S. after forcefully opposing it in 2010 when he was running for U.S. Senate.

The senator from Florida, who's considered to be a potential Republican presidential candidate, has tried to gloss over the shift. Unfortunately, he's getting called on it. By Factcheck.org. And by many conservatives, like those who booed his name when it was mentioned at a Tea Party rally this week on Capitol Hill. Or Ann Coulter, who said Friday the Senate shouldn't take up immigration until it becomes a Rubio-free body. Former Republican Rep. Allen West is even saying he might give Rubio a primary challenge over his immigration shift.

If Rubio does decide to make the run for president, he will certainly be attacked not only as a flip-flopper but for supporting a policy that's anathema to many conservatives. So, what's a senator to do?

Rubio has a few options, though they all have risks. Here are some possible approaches:

The people made me do it: Rubio could always say he decided to change his position to more accurately reflect the desires of his Florida constituency.

A Quinnipiac University poll released this week indicated that 58 percent of those surveyed agreed with the "path to citizenship" approach while 12 percent said people in the U.S. unlawfully should be allowed to stay, but not given citizenship. Only 24 percent were of the deport or self-deport persuasion.

Even among Florida Republicans, nearly half, 47 percent, supported a citizenship path with 15 percent being willing to let those here unlawfully stay but without allowing them to become citizens.

This is “life's lottery” 2013. Get elected Senator and you live like a king and you and your spawn don't have to work for the rest of your life.

That about says it. If these guys can do this stuff to us, and not lose their job over it, we can only expect to be treated this way. I would like to see Rubio lose his job over this, but he probably won't. Cornyn, McConnell, Graham all three are pushing this crap down our throats, all 3 up for re-election, and I doubt a single one of them will even have a challenger in the primary. Rand Paul is supposed to be on our side, yet is trying to protect McConnell from a primary challenge. We are so screwed if we don't start firing some of these guys. Unfortunately they don't seem to have to worry too much about losing their jobs.

The senator from Florida, who's considered to be a potential Republican presidential candidate

Marco Rubio

born May 28, 1971 in Miami, FL (Meets the Jus Soli Requirement)

Parents were
Mario Rubio born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.
Oria Garcia born in Cuba, naturalized Nov. 5, 1975.

Parents were NOT US Citizens at the time of his birth (Does NOT meet the Jus Sanguinis Requirement)

Marco Rubio is NOT a NATURAL BORN CITIZEN.

Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.

Points to keep in mind:

>> There is no record of who is here illegally.

>> Illegals can apply for green card immediately from their
home country because there is no record of their crime. Green card (permanent residence visa) is automatic path to citizenship in 5 years.

So, the way I understand it, Rubio is proposing to allow the illegals to apply for green card from US instead of from their home country.

If I was able to come face to face with Rubio I would spit right in his face, and take the consequences.

There is no one in Congress I would not spit in their face.

I wonder if Dupio is smart enough to realize that in going all in for amnesty, he presented Schmuck Shumer with a two-fer: 1) as a “conservative” front to sell the amnesty disaster, and 2) a means to destroy Dupio as an up-and-coming contender for the Republican presidential nominee.

Anyway, better we find out about Dupio now than later.

If the amnesty bill crashes and burns, at least one good thing will have come out of it: Dupio (and others) have shown their true colors.

Yep. Watch for him to change parties and run as a Demwit in the next presidential election. He should be a shoe-in with all the wetbacks voting for him. And he won’t have to worry about eligibility as a Demwit.

Marco Rubio's Big Problem: Explaining His Immigration Shift

Nope. His big problem is the shift itself. No explanation needed.

"Nah, he was always for amnesty."

Unfortunately, if I had to bet, I'd bet on this. I think the guy just lied to win the election, and now that he's in DC, he's showing his true colors.

Marco's status is the same as that of Barry Soetoro, aka Barack Hussein Obama, who is NOT a Natural Born Citizen.

Correct! And an additional piece of interesting information..........this is the same for "Bobby Jindal" whose parents were also not U.S. Citizens at the time of Bobby's 1971 Baton Rouge birth....... in this country.

The Constitution says Bobby can be a Representative in the U.S. House, a Senator in the U.S. Senate.....even a Justice on the Supreme Court.....but he can never be the "Commander in Chief" because he is only a "Born Citizen" and fails to qualify as a "Natural Born Citizen".

I'm surprised we still see a debate on this elementary Constitutional provision. It's probably because everyone feels a precedent has now been set because of the current occupant of the Oval Office. He's there because there were no principled folks willing to be called a "Racist" .......insisting that the Constitution be adhered to when he ran.

Pity...........

As an aside.........Bobby can also be a State's Governor if he desires.

I cannot understand why we (as a nation) find it so difficult to uncover and promote "Natural Born Citizens" as candidates for the office of "POTUS".

Sadly we have low information freepers who don't care about the Constitution.

Think of what Rubio and Jindal could have accomplished if they together publicly had stated,

"We'd like to put these VP nomination rumors to rest once and for all. While serving as VP would be a great honor,
We'd not be able to accept the office as we are not a Natural Born Citizens.
Our parents became US Citizens after our births so by the eligibility requirements specified in Article. II. Section. 1. We're not eligible.

The fact that the CommieRAT Party lied about their usurper Obama's status doesn't change the Constitutional Natural Born Citizen requirement."
