George Zimmerman: State 'devastated' again
The Orlando Sentinel ^ | July 3, 2013 | Hal Boedeker

Capt. Alexis Carter of U.S. Army JAG testifies Wednesday at the George Zimmerman trial.

How bad was it for the state at the George Zimmerman trial Wednesday morning? Bad, then maybe better, TV analysts said.

WFTV-Channel 9's Bill Sheaffer said Capt. Alexis Carter, Zimmerman's former teacher at Seminole State College, was "devastating" to the state’s case.

Carter "legitimized the very defense of self-defense in front of these jurors, and the state -- you could see the blood draining from their faces," Sheaffer said.

WKMG-Channel 6's team marveled that Carter was giving a tutorial on the "stand your ground" law to jurors. Legal analyst Eric Dubois said it was "another state witness that just kind of blew up and helped the defense a lot."

WKMG's Mike DeForest wondered: "How much money is George Zimmerman saving by letting the state witnesses present their testimony?"

Zimmerman is charged with second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of Trayvon Martin.

WOFL-Channel 35 analyst Diana Tennis said defense attorney Don West had turned Carter, a state witness, into a defense witness. "This was a little lesson for the jury that seemed to fit with the defense case," she said.

WFTV anchor Greg Warmoth wondered how the state could overcome its witness Carter.

"This is the state's case. You're not expecting that the case has to bounce back from anything," Sheaffer said. "The defense hasn't even presented its case yet."

Sheaffer later said that his heart went out to Trayvon Martin's family, but he was talking about the application of the law.

On CNN, there was a discussion about Zimmerman's laughing at one point during Carter's testimony. Drew Findling, a criminal defense attorney, said that the chuckling humanized Zimmerman.....

Non-Blacks in this country simply don’t riot.

For better or worse, our role will be limited to finishing up after a riot.

It’s just how civilized Christians with a work ethic are wired to behave.

"WKMG's Tony Pipitone highlighted that Siewert explained "how Zimmerman had to go to some unusual lengths to get that magazine full of bullets and also have one in the chamber." For Zimmerman to have that level of readiness was "somewhat unusual," Pipitone said."

That is not unusual at all. A magazine only holds a limited number of rounds and one in the chamber plus a full mag would be typical and prudent for most auto pistol owners. Means the weapon is ready to fire immediately once the safety is released. No need to cycle a round into the chamber before it will fire. If GZ had not been prudent he may have been found dead on the sidewalk with his brains splattered all over.

Hoping (as from day one), that Zimmerman is found not guilty.

He hasn’t been treated fairly. The judge is pro for the prosecution. The state is trying to railroad him by even refusing documents through the discovery process.

Many in the media lied out of the gate in saying/implying that George followed Martin and shot him as he was running away.

Those women jurors may feel like they have to give the Martin family something from what some of those lawyers analyzing the case said in Orlando. That is just wrong. That is not the meaning of justice.

Should such a thing happen, I believe that it is imperative to let authorities handle it unless an individual has absolutely no choice but to defend himself against an attack.

We do not want to give certain people in this country what they want. That would be a mistake.

exactly. but the problem is that if what they “give” her is a manslaughter conviction, then the sea hag on the bench can give him up to 30 years.

I think Crump & Crew were expecting to hit pay dirt after the conviction of Zimmerman (that I hope is not coming). They settled with the HOA for $1M +/-. That’s not really a lot after the split, assuming the attorneys took the standard 1/3, plus costs; that left maybe $500K for the parents to split. How long is $250K going to last?

Ok, this is maximum retarded. Any police officer with a semi-automatic has one in the chamber and a full magazine. Imagine struggling to get a pistol out of the holster, and then struggling to rack a round in the chamber. God what ignorance.

re: “But the WESH-Channel 2 team saw hope for the state in the testimony of firearms analyst Amy Siewert of the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. “This is the heart of the case,” analyst Jeff Deen said. “When George Zimmerman put this bullet in his gun, remember he was going to the store. He made assumptions about Trayvon Martin in seconds.”

Deen raised other points: An argument could now be made whether Zimmerman had a depraved mind. When you carry a gun ready to fire, Deen said, you're responsible for the consequences, whether you're right or wrong.”

I don't know who this analyst Jeff Deen is, but I am outraged that this so called expert claims that carrying a gun ready to fire is an indication of a depraved mind. I guess he expects those who carry guns for self-protection to keep their bullet in their pocket like Barney Fife.

You are 100% correct. He will be convicted of something. His best hope is a hung jury, which will mean they have to do it all over again.

Economic theory informs us that all resources are scarce, but white guilt is without limit.

If she tries to introduce lesser charges I believe that will prompt Zimmerman’s lawyers to call for a mistrial.

You can’t just start adding in charges, he’s up for a 2nd degree homicide. There were no other charges the jury could consider. They can’t change that in the middle of the trial because it appears that one side can’t get the outcome they desire. That’s absurd. That would set grounds for mistrial, and certainly an appeal.

Further I do not believe they can meet the definitions required to ask for either voluntary or involuntary manslaughter. There is no indication what George did was wrong, given he was getting the crap kicked out of him, and was the only one who got beaten up, validating his story, so how do they prove that his self-defense wasn’t necessary? They can’t disprove it and the evidence supports his account. They can’t go for involuntary manslaughter because there was no culpable negligence (disregard for human life while engaged in wanton or reckless behavior). witnesses and story and evidence all corroborate this was not the case.

They can only go for 2nd degree homicide. If that can’t be proven they can’t squeeze this into manslaughter because it doesn’t fit the definitions of either voluntary or involuntary manslaugter. The state has actually proven George Z to be truthful and his account accurate. He can’t then be pegged with either voluntary or involuntary manslaughter.

Hope we all have ample stocks of ammo when this jury comes back because this may really hit the fan if they return a not guilty verdict.

I will have the reloading factory going tomorrow a.m.

Zimmerman is toast if the jury thinks anything like these “analysts.”

From the article:

“WKMG’s Tony Pipitone highlighted that Siewert explained “how Zimmerman had to go to some unusual lengths to get that magazine full of bullets and also have one in the chamber.” For Zimmerman to have that level of readiness was “somewhat unusual,” Pipitone said.”

Siewert is a firearms analyst for the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

An unarmed George Zimmerman would, in all probability be a dead George Zimmerman. In which case, we would not know his name, or any of the details of this case. It would have just faded into the background noise of crime in this country,

Because they don’t have anything! The prosecutor should be brought up on charges.

I made this point earlier. Virtually every ccw carries with a round in the chamber because you could very well not have time to manually chamber a round. What if your other hand isn’t free?

Police carry with a round in the chamber. Off-duty cops carry guns with rounds in the chamber. Nobody freaks that they’re depraved for doing so. CCWs are walking and living in the same world they do. CCWs encounter criminals and killers just as easily as they can.

“Those women jurors...”

I’m afraid you could be right. On the other hand, some women are the best at seeing straight through the phony histrionics of another woman.
