Rand Paul talks some sense that all his fellow Republicans should face on the bugaboo of "amnesty" for those lawbreaking illegal immigrants already in the United States, reported via Mediaite:
Sen. Rand Paul (R-KY) may have voted against the Senate’s “Gang of Eight” immigration reform bill last week, but he seemingly does not count himself among the conservative critics of the bill who oppose any and all forms of “amnesty” for illegal immigrants currently living inside the United States.
In an interview with WNDtv, Sen. Paul took on the critics of so-called “amnesty” who oppose efforts to “normalize” illegal immigrants and absorb them into the United States. “Let’s get them work visas, let’s normalize them, let’s make them taxpayers,” he said of the 11 million undocumented immigrants currently residing within the states.
“They’re not going home,” Paul said, adding that even the most vocal opponents of so-called “amnesty” seem to recognize this fact. “Are they for sending these people home? Do they want us to put them in concentration camps, on buses, and send them back home? I don’t think anyone’s proposing that.”
Mike Riggs earlier today had a great roundup of the liberty issues implicated in this round of "immigration reform."
There are many examples we need to set by our intent and actions while settling this issue and cleaning up the mess that's been made.
Let's make certain we each will want to be judged accordingly for all that we do here when our test is finally over, rather than fear that Judgment.
Don't accept his premise, so the rest of his position doesn't make sense.
Enforce the laws, they will go home. PERIOD.

RE: Operation Wetback
Operation Wetback uses the name “Wetback” which was a derogatory term applied to Mexicans laborers, both legal and illegal.
One of the biggest issues with the program was the deportation of Mexicans to unfamiliar places, where they would struggle to find their way home or support their families.
The following is taken from the book:
Impossible Subjects: Illegal Aliens and the Making of Modern America by Mae Ngai of Columbia University
If I read its history right, over 25% of apprehended Mexicans were returned to Veracruz on ships, while others were transported by land to southern cities in Mexico.
Those apprehended were often deported without opportunity to recover their property in the US or contact family and were stranded without food or employment when they entered Mexico.
Deported Mexicans faced extreme conditions and were sometimes left in the desert; 88 deported workers died in 112 degree heat in July 1955.
Another issue was repeat border crossings by those who had been previously deported; from 1960-1961, repeaters accounted for 20% of the total deportees.
Certain U.S. Border Patrol agents practiced shaving heads to mark repeat offenders who would attempt to reenter the United States. There were also reports of beating and jailing illegal immigrants before deporting them.
While most complaints concerning deportation were undocumented, there were over 11,000 formal complaints from documented bracero workers from 1954 -1964.
Ultimately, with the lack of evidence and documentation concerning the treatment of laborers in Operation Wetback, the level of mistreatment remains unclear and unknown.
If people come here illegally that’s their problem. They have to endure the conseqences.
Rand Paul is all hot air when it comes to criticism of big govt since his support for illegals will expand the welfare state.

Presently, that is not an image of the U.S. social and political system.
Want to solve this problem? Here is how.
1. Close the entire southern border with National Guard troops. Then choose One county in Arizona.
2. Announce a 7 day moratorium for all illegals in the county to leave the country. Anyone illegally in the county at that time will be arrested and detained prior to deportation.
3. Any real property owned by arrested illegals will be taken by the county including homes, cars, etc.
4. Any illegal resisting arrest will be shot.
5. Choose your next county. You won't find anyone there.
What about the teenagers who were taken here illegally as very young kids? We pull them out of the schools they’ve been attending and send them back to the place they’ve never known as home, right?

I don’t buy the premise that they won’t go home. In fact many have gone home since the economy crashed, so we know that under certain conditions they will chose to deport themselves.
You don’t need buses or concentration camps or other cartoonish things. You need policies that create an incentive for them to go home. E.g. Make it hard for them to get drivers licenses and access social services and rent apartments and put their kids in school, and make it hard for employers to hire them.
When Paul says they’re not leaving what he really means is we don’t have the will to pressure them to leave. What’s interesting is that the unwillingness is concentrated in the political class, not the general public.

Seattle has gotten rid of the term, “brown bag”....can’t we toss the term, “concentration camps”? Perhaps we could call them, “sleepover places” and provide them with ‘white bag’ lunches..
I love it when someone who knows nothing about immigration destroys himself trying to embarrass others on the issue.
Mr. Paul, if you take away the freebies, the government support, the ability to live five famlies in a one family abode, you’ll have these people return to the nation of their origin voluntarily.
