Rude Awakening: Woman Who Got Shout-Out From President – Can’t Afford Obamacare Policy After All
The Washington State Wire ^ | 11/19/2013

OLYMPIA, Nov. 17.—Jessica Sanford, the Federal Way woman who got a shout-out from President Obama last month with her fan letter for the Affordable Care Act, got a rather rude awakening last week. Turns out she doesn’t qualify for a tax credit after all.

At least that’s what the letter said that she got from the state. Now she says her dream of affordable health insurance has gone poof.(snip) “I’m really terribly embarrassed,” she says. “It has completely turned around on me.(snip).”

Chalk it up to a bollixed-up state website that apparently still has major problems. Originally it said Sanford and her child would get a whopping tax credit that would reduce their total premium to $169 a month. Now the state is telling her it goofed – twice – and she has to pay full ticket. There may even be a third goof involved: At least one health-insurance broker says she may qualify for a tax credit after all, albeit a small one. Officials at the state Healthplanfinder website could not be contacted Sunday night. But it just goes to show that even in the state of Washington, which has earned national kudos for a health-insurance exchange that seems to function better than the dysfunctional federal website, there are big, big problems.

“They have to own up to what is going on,” Sanford says. “They have to fix it. (snip) In my opinion they ought to shut it down and just get all of it straightened out.”

Sanford’s tale may not be all that unusual amid the national furor over Obamacare’s sputtering start. But it is particularly embarrassing because the president himself mentioned it in a speech, calling it a success story that makes the case for the program. These days fan letters are few and far between.

don’t you have to spend the money on the policy at the price quoated first and then when you file your tax return, you will receive a credit that will have brought that down to the subsidized price? so, you still have to spend the money.

Jessica Sanford, the Federal Way woman who got a shout-out from President Obama last month

There should be a Jessica's Law where people whose votes have been extorted by a known liar get relief from their embarassment.

The writer uses words that minimize the extent of the problem.
“bollixed-up”
“goofed”
“sputtering start”

I’m surprised he didn’t call it a “glitch.”

They want you to think it’s just a bunch of technical problems, and that the reader is too stupid to understand them.

This language is chosen deliberately to influence peoples’ views on the subject, and to make sure they think the correct thing: that 0’s people are doing a good job but there are these difficult nerdy problems that they had and are now solving.

ObamaCare has bigger problems than the website. The pain hasn’t even begun to start.

Her reaction shouldn’t be embarrassment - it should be anger. I’ll bet she could have afforded a policy 3 years - or at least 6 months - ago.

So is she going to put blame where it belongs?

A glitch used to be a minor imperfection in type setting before printing. This ain’t a glitch. This will destroy peoples lives and lively hood.
It needs to be repealed and those that supported it over the objections of the people need to be thrown out of office.

The point of all of this; is they don’t care. They don’t care about the non functional website; they don’t care if people can’t afford it.

Their only goal is TO GET A SINGLE PAYER STSTEM and have the govt totally control healthcare. The rest is smoke and mirrors.

Imbecile.

We’ve been trying to tell you that since the commies attempted Hillary-care in 1993. What made you think this would be an improvement on THAT horror.

Difference back then is the Congress read it before they voted on it, and opposition to it was not characterized as “racist”.

The writer uses words that minimize the extent of the problem. “bollixed-up” “goofed” “sputtering start”

As opposed to 'disastrous', 'botched', "problem plagued", "failure filled" or any other negative description of a messed up program enacted by Republicans.

It really is complicated to figure out the costs when there are both commercial and Medicaid in the same family, whether done by software or by hand.

What about ‘fairness’?

Isn’t it more ‘fair’ that you should work to pay for mine?

Tip of the iceberg.

I predict more and more people will find out they cannot afford Obamacare.

Even if it’s ‘free’ they can’t afford it.
