'Sea change': Poll shows young people skeptical of ObamaCare, amid Obama outreach

As the president hosts a White House youth summit, a new poll from his alma mater shows a majority of young people aren't interested in signing up for his signature health care plan.

The Harvard "Millennials" poll found only 22 percent of young Americans -- defined in the survey as between 18 and 29 years old -- plan to sign up for ObamaCare. Even more troubling for the administration, fewer than a third -- only 29 percent -- of people who currently do not have health insurance plan to enroll.

"Actuarially, the [Affordable Care Act] depends upon these young Americans signing up," Trey Greyson, director of Harvard's Institute Of Politics, said. "Our survey shows that the administration has a lot of work to do to get them on board."

Indeed, the Affordable Care Act relies on a large pool of young, healthy enrollees to pay for older, sicker Americans. Without their premium support, the entire system is at risk of collapse.

The new data comes as Obama launches a fresh push to engage young people on the law. He's dispatching dozens of youth leaders on Wednesday to help promote the law to the public, as the president himself launches a fresh campaign to sell the benefits of the law amid criticism in Congress.

Oh, I hope he keeps up the "get in their faces" approach.

That will go over so well among the millennials.

Obamas got a plan to turn that around.

He had a meeting with MSNBC hosts and other progressives and they are on the PR offensive.

Obama out campaigning again.

On MSNBC you would think that Obamacare is NOW as popular as Social Security is now.

Indeed, there are TWO problems here.

One is that Millenials are going to ignore the law and not sign up. Which will rob the system of money with all sorts of nasty cascading consequences.

The second will be the one with greater impact: when the IRS reaches out to those Millenials for their non-participation. They’re going to learn, first hand, he ability of big government to reach out and touch them personally/individually. It’s going to be a very brutal wakeup call.

I don't see how young healthy people can be convinced to buy insurance they don't need at prices sufficient to actuarially make up for the lower costs for older, sickly people.

It looks like the entire concept was doomed from the get-go.

"What the hell, Barack? We are losing the young people. They were the ones we
were going to use in order to realize our plan to divest the Americans people of
their birthright. What the hell are you going to do about it?"

If Obama wanted young people to sign up, why did he allow them to stay on their parents’ plan up to age 26? Makes no sense.

The definition of a conservative is a liberal who's been mugged.

We will see.

Can’t their parents afford to get an option package from Blue Cross Blue Shield? They are advertising that they are the alternative to Obamacare.

Things are looking good tho. Every year there are more than a few articles about how Millenials are shocked and angry that what they do online is tracked, recorded and often used against them in things like job interviews.

They simply are oblivious to the negative aspects of the world they’ve chosen to help create.

Getting a threatening letter from the IRS, indicating that the government knows who they are, where they live, all sorts of other personal information and is now going to TAKE their money for something they supported in theory without comprehending the impacts to them, on an individual level, is going to cause a little change of heart on their parts ...

“...when the IRS reaches out to those Millenials for their non-participation.”

How about that? All the MSM reports make it sound like Obamacare is completely optional for the young with no consequences.

Two things I’m certain of:

1. If Obamacare isn’t repealed the IRS will make damn sure every single one of these Millenials pays their “fair share” into the system one way or the other.

2. This enforcement won’t begin until after the 2016 presidential election.

MS·NBC
/eməs ənbēsē/
noun, verb

1. noun: A propaganda network that employs otherwise-unplaceable clinically-insane individuals.
2. verb: To be completely and utterly disassociated from reality in any way, and still opine on news matters of the day.
3. verb: To be willing to parrot exact talking points, however bizarre and contra-indicated from even casual observation, from the Obama White House.
4. verb: To, in a deranged and unhinged way, accuse all people who have any view other than your own, of racism. 5. verb: To engage in crazed, psychotic, babbling and bizarre rants utterly devoid of any basis in fact and in complete opposition to demonstrable facts, and still be given access to a camera and a microphone.

Syn: Barking Moonbat, Certifiably Insane

Ex: "Did you see Chris Matthews? He MSNBC'd that poor conservative!"

Maybe yes, maybe no. How many are already past the age 26 threshold? And how many parents are going to be willing to carry their kids on their plans? Especially as premiums and deductables continue to rise in an across the board manner?

I sincerely hope that you're right. People have short memories, though.

I've been wondering if all the issues with Obamacare are happening in order to give Hillary! something to run against. Prob not, since it's mostly an ego thing with BO, but the tinfoilhat side of me wonders...

"I'll fix it! HillaryCare will be 79.3% better, and save you $2230/year. Guaranteed!! But only if you vote for me because I'm a kind, caring female, and not that stinky Republican who wants to take stuff from you, is a bigot, and probably beats his wife."
