The United States dispatched a destroyer to join the massive international search for the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 that went missing Saturday morning with 239 on board, as it appeared increasingly likely the plane had crashed into the ocean.

Air traffic controllers lost track of Malaysia Airlines Flight MH 370 shortly after it left Kuala Lumpur en route to Beijing, carrying 239 passengers and crew, half of which were Chinese nationals. Vietnam’s military said a search team discovered a 12-mile long oil slick in the Gulf of Thailand that may be the downed Boeing 777, but there had been no official confirmation the plane had crashed as of Saturday night.

“the USS Indianapolis “

N0 one was looking for them and their location was unknown. They were on a secret mission to deliver the A bomb. That is why no one knew where they were.

The flight path is known here and they had almost immediate notification that contact was lost.

Not quite.

They had already delivered the components and were enroute to Australia(?) with no escort.
The skipper of the Japanese Sub that sank them was called as a witness at Capt McVay(sp?)Courts-Martial

Lots of unanswered questions about this element of the tragedy...for starters, how were the tickets paid for? If it was a cash transaction, that’s supposed to be an immediate red flag. On the other hand, if the tickets were paid for with a debit or credit card in the name of the passport holder, that’s indicative of a sophisticated operation. But if your passport was stolen, wouldn’t you notify the credit bureaus, your bank, etc., to be on the lookout for new accounts in your name and retain the services of an identity protection company? It wouldn’t be the first time that someone sold or traded their passport, then reported as being stolen.

Additionally, these passports were reported stolen or missing months ago—did the Italian and Austrian governments bother to report the theft, and why didn’t this information enter the database for suspicious passengers?

Various governments won’t admit it, but this has all the trappings of a well-executed terrorist plot. They found vulnerabilities in security at the airline and the airport and fully exploited them.

Worth remembering that one of Al Qaida’s early airline plots was aimed at bringing down U.S. jetliners over the Pacific, on their return flights from Asia. Several AQ affiliates in the region with more than enough resources to pull off a similar operation.

If a bomb was used to blow up the plane, it would have had to be a pretty large bomb since there was no mayday call, no sign of distress..even if a shoe bomb or some kind of explosive put in a water bottle or toothpaste tube was used, it would have had to be such a device to cause the entire plane to just explode

“The two stolen passports suggest terrorism, IMO.”

I can see why people would think that, and of course it may be correct (whether we ever find out or not). But this plane was a completely Asian gig, it seems to me. Nobody was striking out at the “great satan” by killing these people.

Do we know how common travel on stolen passports is in that part of the world, or even in general? And, now that I’m thinking about it, presumably those travelers where white since they were posing as an Italian and, what was the other one, German?

I don’t know, white terrorists blowing up a Malaysian plane filled with Chinese people? I’m not getting a good picture of who/what this would be.

Radical environmentalists?

Maybe the 2 people using the stolen passports were just ordinary crooks, unlucky ones in this case.

Seriously though, the triple-7 is an extremely sound platform. Remember those Asiana boobs who banged one onto the runway at SFO last year and it stayed essentially intact? If I had to fly across an ocean it would be a 777 or a 747.

They found debris at the surface early on, but it took far more time to locate the black boxes.

Have you notified all the investigators with your findings? Please tell all of us exactly how the event went down. Should we call a news conference or simply loosen your foil hat?

LOL, to Muslims the entire non-Muslim world is the Great Satan. You read about the mass murder by knifing by Muslims in China the other day? Plus, using terrorism as a cover for political assassination is hardly unknown.

Try this on for size:

The Uighur Muslims, in my humble opinion, may have attacked this flight as part of their jihad on the Chinese.

The first bits of debris were found on the ocean surface on June 6, five days after the crash.

Search and rescue equipment used for Air France 447:

“A search began immediately, using air, naval, and underwater operations, including autonomous underwater vehicles.”

It took five days to find the first bits of debris and two years to find the actual wreckage.
