That similarity struck me, as well.
I did not make that claim. What I said is that the job is still largely MK I eyeball, which is certainly true in this case. You are the one claiming that we have the capability to locate the crash site within hours.
Please inform us all what systems can provide the kind of surveillance necessary to spot debris on the open ocean. Feel free to use the entire arsenal of the U.S., Malaysia, Vietnam, Thailand, Singapore. Satellites, aircraft, ships, UAS are all at your disposal. Just note where they were stationed, how long it would take them to get on station, and what their loiter time might be. You may take into account that a U.S. destroyer is in route to the scene, but I haven't seen anything that indicates how long it will take for her to steam to the search area.
True, but they were lost in an area under active patrol by U.S. aircraft. That was simply a well known example. Perhaps a better example would be the French airliner in the Atlantic. How long did it take to locate the wreckage, and by what means was this accomplished?
I believe that is what happened.
just like I believe Benghazi was not caused by a movie
these days I have to read between the lines
I also believe 9-11 was terrorism, not a plot by our own government
Tin foil? Maybe more people should read between the lines. You know the government won’t even call the Texas Army post massacre terrorism?
And the Boston marathon bombing I also think is terrorism.
So suit yourself if you think it some inexplicable cause. Your are entitled to your opinion. I am entitled to mine.
Absolutely no comparison in terms of the uncertainty area for the aearch.
Thanks Buckeye. It's a lot harder to do in real life than in the movies or on the Discovery Channel.
I watch hurricanes form out of tiny swirls all over the ocean every year. Local land radar confirms formation. The explosion would be visible from common weather sats. If it just splashed into the ocean, no explosion and smoke, that probably wouldn’t be picked up.
And that’s just public domain realtime sat imagery. The sats who see what brand of cigs a Russian is smoking on his picnic table.... it *is* known what happened, just classified at this point as the reality could probably provoke war, or at least retribution.
If islamists blew it up to terrorize the Chinese, the Chinese know it and are about re-patriate some in-country islamists. From about 30K feet.
The NRO knows exactly where the plane went down as it has in other lost aircraft incidents, and in the case of re-entering satellite debris. Very rarely is any of that information released to civil authorities. Release can be authorized if survivors are suspected, which wouldn’t be the case here.
I hate to be crass and selfish:
But, since we don’t have a dog in this hunt, to whom do we send the $$$$ bill for the destroyer and air assets to try to locate the grave of 200 plus foreigners’?
BTW I find it very strange that a disabled or breaking up aircraft didn’t allow time for the pilot to get off a mayday:
thus I call terrorism
Not crass nor selfish. Excellent points
Depends. If they had a bird on the right orbit, overhead at the right time, looking in the right direction, with the right sensors then perhaps. Are you claiming that the NRO's assets are covering all of the Earth, all of the time? What do you think the odds are for this particular bit of the Earth's surface?
I wasn’t comparing the search area. I was describing the technology used to search for Air France 447 because the posters were discussing the available technology.
And she wasn't zigzagging
Air France 447 crashed over the Atlantic Ocean in area with very rugged terrain where the depth of the ocean bed ranges from .5 mile to 2.75 miles with significant depth changes over short distances.
By comparison, MH370’s last known location was over the Gulf of Thailand, which is only 250 feet deep at its deepest point.
I believe one of you asked how long it would take for the USS Pinckney to reach the last known location of MH370. The U.S. Navy estimates it will be there within 24 hours.
That is very interesting, some of those incidents I hadn’t heard about, like the fire at the gay nightclub.
That train station thing was terrifying, did they arrest anybody? It doesn’t seem like they did.
why would muzzies blow up a plane going from Malaysia to China?
Last night I heard two repeatedly.
