I too got lightly nipped in the face by my Malinois , when she was young . My offense : I blew in her ear .... Be very careful with young and vital Malinios , some can be hair trigger . They mellow with age , into the dearest creatures imaginable . Truly your best friend . Just don’t f with them :^)

Hand always ready between muzzle and face. No exceptions.

Officer has face truncated by dog. (That he’d shoot on sight at any other time.)

Curious if the camera or the phone might be emitting a high frequency noise that upset the dog.

The dog just knew that selfies are stupid and let the cop know it.

Possibly, but more likely that the dog interpreted the cop being so close as a threat.

No kidding. Dogs are not primates people. All dogs bite.

Don't extend your hand to a dog, that is not a friendly gesture to a canine.

And don't think they like being hugged. They don't.

An arm over a dog, let alone around his neck, is considered an act of dominance. Stupid move by the cop that was sure to bring some response.

So, you're saying that it would be safe to attempt a selfie with a wild chimpanzee, orangutan, or gorilla?

Regards,

I once had a chance to take a selfie with Mike Tyson but had second thoughts about losing an ear. :)

Probably that and/or an IR focus.

'We’re praying for the deputy and everything to be fine with him. ..""

I think the CO must have broke out laughing hysterically after issuing this statement. I mean, "praying"? Over a torn lip?? I simply cannot picture him saying that with a straight face.

I'm sure the other guys at the station will be yucking it up at his expense tomorrow.

I do a lot of behavioral rehab and work with dogs and hang out with some who are solid behaviorists. Most dogs hate being hugged but tolerate it. Nonetheless under the right circumstances any dog will bite you with enough stressors.

dog behavioralist teaching

dogs don’t make “ventral/ventral” contact (chest to chest, belly to belly) like primates do when they are nursing, and thus don’t develop a positive association between ventral/ventral contact and feeling nurtured and loved
