Just received a call from one of his friends in Florida. Gonzo (Barry Lee) has passed away, He was a long term member of FR and was proud to be with us at the March for Justice in 1998. He was a veteran and a patriot and has always been a loyal friend and will be greatly missed.
Prayers for his family and loved ones.

Gonzo was one of a kind. The most staunch culture warrior I’ve been privileged to know.

Wasn’t Gonzo one of the first to get a visit from the Secret Service, for some comment during the Cliinton mess? If it was Gonzo, as I recall, they showed up, he invited them in, and they had a talk, leaving with good feelings.

That picture was taken in Stuart. We had a busy day that day. We manned a sidewalk in Boca Raton, then convoyed up to Stuart to Freep a Clinton fundraiser at Willy Gary’s (another “activist” lawyer) digs.
It was the debut of the Free Republic Navy.
There were hundreds - HUNDREDS - of local residents in the street.
I seem to remember one or more “Sexual Predator” posters hanging on telephone poles...
Gonzo, and all of us, had a great time.
So long, Gonzo. I’ll see you again.
That was a great day with great people.

Gonzo was our first FReeper to be Secret Service certified. Passed the security clearance with flying colors.

Hi Peter! Long time no FReep! Sad the reason we are posting here. Sigh. I remember pictures of the FReeper Navy! It was a wonderful display of togetherness. Gonzo will always be with us. A true FReeper.
Do you remember the prayer circle we had at Bary/Mata Hara’s house the night of Bush’s contested election.
I swear that won it that night right there! Of course, it took God 36 days to recognize what the Florida Freepers did that night at his house!

You betcha I remember it! We took turns going in another room...down on our knees praying for GWB to win!
And I recall, after Gore rescined his concession, we stayed up most of the night discussing the situation.
I think it was you, Gene or Gonzo who predicted Bush Vs. Gore would go all the way to the Supreme Court but that Bush would win!
Those were the days...RIP Dear Barry!
