A May 7th solicitation by the U.S. Department of Agriculture seeks "the commercial acquisition of submachine guns [in] .40 Cal. S&W."

According to the solicitation, the Dept. of Agriculture wants the guns to have an "ambidextrous safety, semiautomatic or 2 round [bursts] trigger group, Tritium night sights front and rear, rails for attachment of flashlight (front under fore group) and scope (top rear), stock collapsible or folding," and a "30 rd. capacity" magazine. They also want the submachine guns to have a "sling," be "lightweight," and have an "oversized trigger guard for gloved operation."

To shoot those citizens who dare let their cows fart on government land.

Who knows. But any way you look at this it doesn’t bode well for private citizens.

So they can shoot farmers while they are changing their government-mandated low-capacity magazines.

Evidently, the tomatoes have been getting restive lately and may have to be put down.

I expect that they’re for the Forest Service. The Forest Service is under the Department of Agriculture and is responsible for policing in national forests. Given the amount of illegal marijuana cultivation that goes on in the more remote sites of national forests then it’s understandable that they might want to be able to outgun the drug dealers.

I can only hope they don’t dare try to take those evil 30-round magazines into Colorado, New York, or other places where they’re banned.

Nothing to see here! Haven’t you been warned enough by certain fellow FReepers that there is nothing unusual about such purchases and its only those of the ‘tin foil hat’ crowd who would find this the least bit disconcerting.

Good point. If what you say is true, these officers ought to be armed at least as well as the adversaries defending unlawful activity.

You know, there’s an alternative to the whole illegal marijuana thing that doesn’t require a regulatory government agency to purchase submachine guns.

Don’t flame me, people. I’m just sayin’.

That makes a lot of sense.

Now can you explain to me why the Department of Education and the IRS need SWAT teams?
