The problem is the somewhat “moving target” of the Eighth Amendment’s prohibition against “cruel and unusual punishment.” Who defines what’s “cruel and unusual?” In an effort to be more “humane” with our executions via lethal injection, it had the opposite result. What’s wrong with hanging, the firing squad, the electric chair or the gas chamber?

I’m not sure about death throes but they give sedatives to knock a person out when
they do surgery. I don’t understand why that isn’t done before or with the
medications that are designed to stop the living processes. Maybe they do
as I don’t know the details of execution process.
