Canada-born U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz has made good on a promise to renounce his birth country’s citizenship—doing so amid speculation he could make a run at the White House in 2016.

Spokeswoman Catherine Frazier said Cruz’s action became official May 14 and that Texas’ junior senator received written confirmation at his home in Houston on Tuesday. She said the tea-party-backed Republican “is pleased to have the process finalized.”

“Being a U.S. Senator representing Texas, it makes sense he should be only an American citizen,” Frazier said in an email. …

precedent was set by being denied to the ballot, as if it was needed, where the names on the ballot are assumed to be eligible to assume the office in the election

if you’re saying it’s up to congress to validate the person assuming the office, you would be wrong. congress leaves that up to the states.

chase it around if you’d like to prove it for yourself. i have. in the end, you’ll be back at the state level looking at the supervisor of elections who never collected any paperwork that verified eligibility. the supervisor was handed a list from the governor’s office... whose names were submitted by the parties in the states that met the filing requirements. of course, the qualification papers never seem to include verification of citizenship or NBC status for the office of the president and vice president.

any such paperwork should be available to the public

That is actually an enhanced image of humblegunner's cat.
He took a great photo of her, and Eaker did the enhancing.

And I knew that you would love it.

humble gunner,

Your Lizzy is gorgeous! My very first kitty, the one who made me fall in love with all things feline, was a gray kitty.

Cleo was an indoor cat, but she was a mighty hunter of the red dot. Please give your Lizzy a kiss for me.

And folks, I’ve written to Ted Cruz, my understanding is he has a cat. We need a first kitty in the White House again. I’m waiting for confirmation. :)

Well, you refused to listen and learn, so you got what was coming to you.

As my late mom used to say, “If you can’t hear, you can feel.”

See ya

"You can be sure that the Democrats will use this issue against Ted."

What WON'T they use against him? Every facet of a conservative's life is fair game to twist and somehow use against them in the demented minds of the left. If they can't find something, they'll make it up. So, if you think we should pick our candidates based on who's "safe" from that, you should understand there isn't one who would be.

What is it with all this shaking in fear of the Democrats? It's pretty nauseating.

Just one more reason to like the guy.

What is it with all this shaking in fear of the Democrats?

The difference is the Democrats will use the pursuit of Obama as the rationale.

Yes, it was a minority of people. The GOP wasn't behind it, and tried to wash their hands of it. But, the Democrats will try to tie that albatross around both the candidate and the party, and with the help of the knee-pad media, they'll succeed.

If you have the "topic" bar enabled, you'll still see NaturalBornCitizen at the top of the FR news index page. But suddenly, when the discussion turns to Ted Cruz, the subject is verboten?

Regardless of what you believe about the issue, why are you celebrating silencing someone that expresses a contrary opinion?

-- if you're saying it's up to congress to validate the person assuming the office, you would be wrong. congress leaves that up to the states. --

The 20th amendment to the US constitution has this ...

... the Congress may by law provide for the case wherein neither a President elect nor a Vice President elect shall have qualified, declaring who shall then act as President, or the manner in which one who is to act shall be selected ...
The contingency provided for is that the president elect is ineligible, which, if the scheme you say is in place, could not happen, so no contingency would be required.

States may limit who is allowed to be named on the ballot, and just refreshing my recollection by reading the Ankeny case, Indiana statute has an eligibility requirement for a presidential candidate to be named on the ballot. The fact that a state has an eligibility requirement does not remove the fact that Congress is the ultimate decider.

3 USC 19 - Vacancy in offices of both President and Vice President also covers the eligibility / qualification ground described in the 20th amendment.

The qualification question isn't fully ripe until a candidate receives a majority of the electoral votes; and political parties are allowed to replace the nominee between convention and casting of electoral ballots, with the nominee assumed to be unavialable by reason of death or incapacity. This substitution can also occur after the general election!

I read somewhere he has a dog and a cat, and has two small daughters.

I also think he’s very handsome, but that’s not a reason to vote for someone once you get out of sixth grade. I feel good about this guy. I hope he has a chance. You know?

paste all the web droppings you’d like. won’t change anything.

go ahead. do the foot work. find ANYWHERE that 0bama submitted ANY qualifying paperwork that included proof of citizenship and proof of NBC status (ie: birth certificate). keep in mind, such proof should be viewable by the public (it’s for public office)

if you actually find one, please let me know.

It isn't the Democrats that want rid of Ted Cruz. It's the Republicans. He'll destroy the Uniparty in DC. Why are you trying to help them?

The GOPe has trolls on this forum. I wouldn't side with them if I were you. Their goal is destruction of Conservatives.

"The difference is the Democrats will use the pursuit of Obama as the rationale."

Like I said, they'll use things that aren't even issues. We can't be worried about that.

"Yes, it was a minority of people. The GOP wasn't behind it, and tried to wash their hands of it. But, the Democrats will try to tie that albatross around both the candidate and the party, and with the help of the knee-pad media, they'll succeed."

It's pretty simple and straightforward--Cruz is an NBC. Conservatives will just have to work to get that message out with the help of talk radio, Breitbart, and other sources.

"If you have the "topic" bar enabled, you'll still see NaturalBornCitizen at the top of the FR news index page. But suddenly, when the discussion turns to Ted Cruz, the subject is verboten?"

I don't see that Obama's particular situation has any bearing on that of Cruz, which, like i said, is pretty simple, no matter how folks try to muddy it up with mile-long posts.

"Regardless of what you believe about the issue, why are you celebrating silencing someone that expresses a contrary opinion?"

There were plenty of attempts to educate Millie about this issue. I myself have posted the CATO link to her, more than once. She refused to respond to it and most likely didn't bother reading it. She was dead-set on banging her drum on a privately owned forum, even after being warned by its owner not to do so.

And you're surprised that she got banned?

That's a different proposition, being the quantum of evidence or proof. My comment was that Congress is the ultimate decider. States can decide too, using whatever criteria for evidence that they choose.

The remark that I made, that you object to, was "It's up to Congress to determine whether or not the candidate with the majority of electoral votes is qualified, under the constitution." Another way to make the point is that if an unqualified candidate obtains the office, it represents a failure of Congress.

Your position seems to be that it is up to the states to determine that only qualified candidates obtain electoral votes. My rebuttal was that, if that is so, the Congress would not be responsible for seating an unqualified candidate, the states would be.
