Now that summer is over and school is starting up again, it's time for the torrent of ridiculous "zero tolerance" suspensions and arrests to resume.
Summerville High School in Summerville, South Carolina, is wasting no time: A 16-year-old student was arrested and suspended for writing a story in which he used a gun to kill a dinosaur. The student, Alex Stone, was assigned by a teacher to write a story about himself. Stone chose to embellish his story with obviously fictional details, like dinosaurs. But the teacher saw the word "gun" and the rest is history, according to NBC-12:
Stone said in his "status" he wrote a fictional story that involved the words "gun" and "take care of business."
"I killed my neighbor's pet dinosaur, and, then, in the next status I said I bought the gun to take care of the business," Stone said.
Stone says his statements were taken completely out of context.
"I could understand if they made him re-write it because he did have "gun" in it. But a pet dinosaur?" said Alex's mother Karen Gray."I mean first of all, we don't have dinosaurs anymore. Second of all, he's not even old enough to buy a gun."
Investigators say the teacher contacted school officials after seeing the message containing the words "gun" and "take care of business," and police were then notified on Tuesday.
The police arrested Stone and charged him with disorderly conduct. He was also suspended from school for a week.
And just like that, the pop-tart gun suspension has been dethroned as the most absurd zero tolerance story. And it's not even September yet! Well done, Summerville.

I found a Washington Post article about the story that said He was detained for disorderly conduct, based on what police describe as his “irate” demeanor during the search.
It seems the kid said he "bought a gun" in the story so the school had law enforcement search his locker, and during the search the kid acted up and was detained for disorderly conduct during the search.
Im not defending any of it, the fact that a search occurred based on a story of hunting a dinosaur is beyond stupid. I only mention it because the article seems to say that the kid was arrested for mentioning a gun in the story, but he was arrested for somethings he said or did during a search that was requested by the school because of the story. It is still over stooopid, but at least the sequence of events make more sense for the disorderly charge.
Their use of the word "status" makes it sound like he was posting these phrases on Facebook. If that's the case, I can see how some would wonder what the heck he's talking about.

Way off base is an understatement.
Homeschool parents tend to avoid any involvement with the public school system like the plague. They don’t report to them anything more that is absolutely mandated by law and would NEVER blow their kids in for something like that.
VSA, you don’t have a clue how homeschooling works.
My homeschooled kids are probably better shots than the cop in the story. Not sure you know what you’re talking about.
Problem is, he could have written any kind of filth with vile language and it would have been lauded by his teacher.
Happened to my sister back in the early 80’s. When I saw what she wrote, I was appalled. The teacher loved it.
I'm trying to be civil. You should see what I wanted to say! There might have been a few non-alpha characters required.

That is depending on the school's definition of *disorderly conduct*.

Even the mother has been brain-washed!
When I was in HS in the 60’s, our school had a shooting team. With real guns. And guess where the student-team-members kept their rifles during class; in their wall lockers.
In case you’re wondering; out of 2,000+ students, we never had a school-shooting. Nor a school-knifing. Nor a school-bludgeoning. Nor a school-rape. Etc.
But even if his statements were taken in the proper context, so what?
Sad to say, but I'm finding that many of the so-called red-state areas in the south and soutwest are no more conservative than many suburban and rural areas in the Northeast.
In many cities traffic laws apply on private property such as stores and mall lots. Was he monitoring? I don’t know, but he did stop me.
I agree. We pay for these schools. We need to take them back.

When I was in High School the boys had gun racks (with guns. . .who knows if loaded) in the back of their pickup trucks in the school parking lot. No rules, no problems!
These cops need to be fired now!!. Then charged with a felony and most importantly, sued personally for all of their assets.
This is by design. These zero-intelligence policies toward anything gun are in place for one reason - to create a generation of publicly educated hoplophobes.
Who, in say 30-40 years or so, will gladly hand over their inherited parents’ firearm collection to the state in the name of ... social justice, end-all-violence, or whatever other slogan the left can conjure up that the masses by that point will be conditioned to swallow without a chaser...
I hate even thinking about it. But this is the intended outcome of this insanity. There is no other logical explanation.
