Cop Hits Man in the Head 20 Times as Onlookers Plead 'Don't Punch Him No More'

Once the cops have pinned a non-violent suspect to the ground, how many times are they allowed to punch him in the head? Is it fewer than 20? I would say so, but I'm not a Greenville County, South Carolina, deputy.

Greenville officers approached a man at a Walmart parking lot on Saturday. The man appeared to be under the influence of alcohol or drugs, and didn't respond to police questions or instructions. Eventually, the officers followed the man inside the store, where they attempted to detain him. The deputies claim the man resisted, though video footage of the incident certainly makes said resistance look passive, rather than violent. But once the two cops had the man on the ground, one of them immediately began punching him in the head. I count at least 20 blows.

Onlookers were horrified, and begged the deputies to stop. Many thought the treatment of the man was cruel, according to WSPA.com. "Please don't punch him like that, don't punch him no more," said one witness. (More video footage can be seen here.)

The man was eventually tasered and then taken to the hospital. Police have not given his name or explained what the charges against him are. The department is reviewing the footage, however, to determine whether the deputy acted properly when he punched a helpless man in the head over and over and over again.

Dangerous. I went for one with young kids that would need college money.

Just keep cutting the budget. Even the most corrupt don't want to see their phony baloney jobs pencil whipped away by a bean counter.

That was the brilliance of the founders, they used self-interest to keep the government small and useless for the first 100 years.

Now we get to do the same.

Danville police shoot, kill growling miniature dachshund

Killer, who died Monday night after being shot once, was described as “just a little house dog.”

Posted: Thursday, June 11, 2009 1:12 pm | Updated: 1:41 pm, Wed Jan 30, 2013.

DANVILLE — Danville’s police chief says one of his officers acted properly by shooting and killing an 11-year-old miniature dachshund that ran at him while growling.

Neighbors said Killer, who died Monday night after being shot once, was a sweet, mild-mannered dog.

“He just kind of walked up and down the neighborhood and didn’t bother anybody,” said Jenine Edmunds, who lives on the same cul-de-sac as Killer’s owners, Tawaiin Harper and his family. “He was just a little house dog.”

Police Chief Philip Broadfoot declined to name the officer who shot and killed the dog while serving two outstanding warrants to a neighbor.

As the officer returned to his car, “he was surprised by a growling dog running through the yard directly at him from the rear, leaving him with just seconds to consider his options,” according to the a release from Broadfoot.

The options, according to the chief: running to the squad car, distracting the dog or using pepper spray, a baton or firearm.

Broadfoot said the dog lunged at the officer and attacked him.

“Shooting a dog which is actively presenting a threat to an officer is within the department’s policy,” according to the release.

Harper said he drove home from work to try to comfort his wife and two children after they called to say Killer had been shot to death by the officer.

The officer’s supervisor, a lieutenant, “was very, very remorseful,” Harper said. “He kept apologizing. And he said, ‘I know apologizing can’t bring the dog back, but I just don’t know what to say.’ “

Harper said friends and neighbors have asked if the family will get another dog.

“You can’t replace Killer. He’s one of a kind. I’m still trying to soak it in because the dog had been with us so long. He was a family member. They took a family member away.”

Years ago I had a job reading natural gas meters in Oklahoma City. I was in every yard reading the meter. All kinds of dogs in all kinds of settings. I have ZERO patience for cops who shoot and kill house dogs. I’d probably wanna beat the crap out of the cop if I had a chance.....

30% PD budget cut will help to curb anti-dog violence.

Talk to your City Council member about that.

They vote on the budget.

This crap is now ENDEMIC in much of law enforcement anymore.

And folks wonder why I asked the questions I did in the time following the Michael Brown shooting.

I no longer give anyone with a badge the benefit of the doubt any more.

We live in a freaking police state…. and most are comfortable with it.

Living along the lines of “if I have nothing to hide, I have nothing to fear”.

Until it happens to you and yours, for no reason except the thugs with a badge decided to show you who is boss in this country.

That's why it's important to bend the ear of your elected officials that vote on budgets.

Only you can do that. They won't listen to me, I'm out of their district, and can't help them keep their phony-baloney job.

Police departments should be required to allow non police public to attend and sit in on all cop training schools or sessions.

We the public have absolutely no eyes on the inside. We have no idea what is being taught to these thugs or who is doing the teaching? I think we would all be very surprised to find out that they are being trained to shoot the dogs, grandpa's, flash bang baby cribs, act on warrants only after midnight, battering ram front doors, curse, swear, and threaten families and children while handcuffed on the floor, and lots of other root cause behavior.

The one thing I noticed in that video is that they were horribly exposed to being blindsided. If that public decided to act on the assault, the cops would have never known what hit them. Good thing it wasn't near the baseball bats in the sporting goods department!

Yep on the blind-siding thing.

I've chewed out several of the local constabulary when they had their heads in their computer/phone and I walked up on them and they didn't notice.

I walked away and made noise to attract their attention and then 'splained, but yes, the lack of situational awareness is sad. I won't allow it in my grandsons.

It's a point of honor for some family cultures to never complain when dealing with pain.

I never said owww once when I got my spleen and left kidney splashed so badly they had to be removed.

And I didn't moan and mope in the hospital.

You don't have to be ripped to keep quiet.

Just mindful that screaming isn't going to help the surgeons concentrate.
