None of this is supposed to be happening at all. Better Together is supported by every major media outlet in Scotland as well as in London. It has the full research resources of the British government and the backing of big business. Yet there now seems to be an irresistible momentum towards yes.
This week saw polls showing a massive eight-point swing to yes in the last month alone, with women and Labour voters leading the way. Photos of people queueing up to register to vote in Glasgow have been circulating. Maybe they were people queueing up to defend the union? Aye, right.
Here are five reasons why yes is winning.

Can’t blame them for wanting independence from the crown.
I wouldn’t want to pay homage to King Chuckles after his Mum passes either.
Same here; I thought being an independent Sovereign Nation was the whole point of the United States. We should as conservatives be more supportive in their right to determine their own independent future.
Texas was a country before it became a state. Wonder if the feds would deploy troops to prevent any states that wanted to leave the US from doing so? Its not like it hasn’t happened before...
Britain is my country, and I don’t want it split apart just because one part of it tends to vote against my political views.
You’d have to give the hero of Benghazi time to develop a strategy
Britain IS a country. How about giving Texas independence then? It was also a country before it became a state, as was Hawaii. Would you support them going it alone?
Salmond has already said that they are keeping the monarchy even if they vote ‘Yes’, so no, they wouldn’t.

The US is mine, and I very much want to split off from the STARK RAVING INSANE parts.
120 trillion dollars in unfunded mandates? 16 trillion in acknowledged debt?
I didn't run it up, and I don't want to pay it.
The US Senate is fast becoming one of the most destructive organizations in the history of the world. If a few states voted vor independence, they might get the message.
In a freakin heartbeat.
The U.K. is one of the very top tier countries on Earth. If other succession movements see it work in the U.K. than it will be a signal that it can work where they are at.
Also more immediate, if the Referendum passes you will see a secessionist/reunification vote in Northern Ireland faster than you can say "Ulster Scot".
Scotland and England were separate kingdoms with the same monarch from 1603 to 1649 and again from 1660 to 1707. In theory the Scots could ask Elizabeth II to remain as their queen (she is Elizabeth I to Scots). Or they could pick the person with the best genealogical claim to the throne (I think that would be the head of the House of Wittelsbach). Or they could become a republic.
guess that means bill clinton will be running scotland soon. /s
The effect this will have on Northern Ireland will be intense.
