Wow, he really did lose it in a boating accident.

Happens all the time regrettably. Twice a week sometimes in my neck of the woods.

Spray a little WD-40 on it and it will be good as new!;-D

Of course. Is there anything a little WD-40 can't fix?

I have read several times that S&W had some quality control problems in the 70s and 80s. I guess maybe they did but I bought several N frames and they were all basically perfect.

Range was always right on. Barrel to cylinder gap was tighter than specs, they all had great triggers and were accurate. None of them ever gave any problems. I wish I had them all back.

Skeetr Skelton, writer for Shooting Times magazine, did a 5000 round test on the M-15. It shot ok, but at about 4000 rounds part of the slide rail broke off, It still completed the 5000 rd test.

WD-40 is made from fish oil.

I don’t push any alloy frame, they will all pound themselves to sludge with a little bit of encouragement.

Now you have to worry about a broken extractor!

In the book, “John M. Browning, American Gunmaker” they mention that he wished the parts could talk to him. Tell him if they were about to fail.

I think he specifically mentioned extractors failing. Probably the weakest part of an automatic or repeating action. I guess any kind of action for that matter.

Yeah, I think that was the problem. All of the 39s with this problem were subjected to full mag dumps as SOP.
Frankly, I am of the opinion that S&W was using these field reports as testing.
Reps were always helpful. Maybe it should have been done before they were released - but hey, in the late 70s - early mid - 80s, there was a lot of new stuff hitting the market. Auto 9's, especially "smaller" ones, were a new thing.
I have no beef about any of the S&W wheel guns. Never personally had a bad one. But this auto 9mm was a new thing for a lot of gun makers at the time. (Obviously the High Power is NOT in this group)

I’ve seen guys catch fish in the surf with bait that’s been sprayed with WD-40.

This was my go to work rig for close to 30 years. She guards the bedroom now. With the 5 mags I accumulated I don't reckon I'll ever need anything else.

I used up 3 holsters like this, just wore them out. Treated them with teflon powder, they're slick.

Needs a good cleaning!

The 39 had a bad reputation for malfunctioning.

That could explain the presence of the 39.

I figured that is what you meant but the model 15 is a .38 special revolver. I know because I used to have one.

I don’t know what it is like today however.

Are you afraid to go back?
