Democrats Sink to Pre–Great Depression Levels in State Legislatures

In addition to the GOP gains in the U.S., Senate, House and governorships it was an historic night for the party in state legislatures.

Here is the summary by Tim Storey of the National Conference of State Legislatures:

The Republican wave that swept over the states left Democrats at their weakest point in state legislatures since the 1920s.

Everything went in the direction of the GOP as Republicans seized new majorities in the West Virginia House, Nevada Assembly and Senate, New Hampshire House, Minnesota House and New York Senate, The West Virginia Senate is now tied.

Control of several legislative chambers was still up in the air early Wednesday as counting continued in several tight races that will determine control of the Colorado Senate, New Mexico House and Maine Senate.

The lone bright spot for Democrats was holding majorities in the Iowa Senate and Kentucky House.

The overall number of divided state governments will increase with changes in governor in places such as Massachussets, Illinois, Pennsylvania and Maryland along with the legislatures in West Virginia, Minnesota and New York.

UPDATE: Republicans have taken control of the Colorado senate and the New Mexico house. They also have a chance to win the Colorado house and the Washington house, after mail-in ballots are finally counted. The state legislative chambers now stand at 65 Republican, 23 Democrat, 1 tie, and 4 undecided.

The state legislatures are the Patriot/Conservative farm teams. From here, we groom national candidates to send to the DC sh*thole to crush rats and RINOs.

Good job, American voters.

“Obama has absolutely no capital with which to mount any sort of fight. All he has right now is the ability to bluster and Valerie Jarrett telling him which steps to take.”

I like the way you think because you’re spot on. Buckwheat has nothing but bluster and screaming 40 IQ sycophants to cover his inherent imbecility.

Time to get serious about the 'Eric Holder problem', and they must NOT allow racist Thomas Perez to take the DOJ AG seat.

That is some capital that we have on our side. Do we really need an Attorney General anyways? Holder proved that we can do without one for a while.

I'd tell McConnell to stall as long as Obama refuses to bend to the will of the American people.

Obama really needs to be backed into a corner.

we cant go there until we take over public education and start teaching Constitutional Federalism again. That there is the single most important task we have for our future and needs to be the top priority for republican State legislators because our future hinges upon what our kids know.

#1: Federalism
#2: No more racism
#3: no more leftist ideology on campus.

We accomplish these goals and republicans can save their part of this country, as well as have an ideal shot at retaining long term control.

Putting popular bills on Ideologically inflexible Obama desk will do huge amounts of good to damage the Democratic brand and paint Obama for the extremist he really is.

Obama is an ideological moron he will find it hard to sign something that goes against his ideology even if its popular. We now finally have the opportunity to put those kinds of bills on his desk and let Obama do the explaining why it was him all along.

Yes, and it would help if the Republican Party kept the people informed as to what they are doing and the fact that Obama is repeatedly holding the people in contempt. Maybe they could do a nationwide commercial after each act of defiance, or at least make a big stink each time on the news shows and on radio. Pretty soon the people will say - “What the hell has he done now?”

WV also elected a Republican State house, for the first time since 1930...and not by a slender margin, 63-36 at current count, they also went took a 17/17 tie in the State Senate,

I read elsewhere that a WV state senator had switched to R, giving them the majority.

giving them essentially ideological control of the Senate

Right. When something like this happens in a state, the conservative Dem politicians see the writing on the wall. Some will vote with the GOP and become DINOs and some may outright switch. I wouldn't be surprised to see a switch so that the GOP has outright control of the W VA Senate.

Exactly. A lot of us didn’t sleep well for a few nights after the Narcissist won or cheated his way into the outhouse.

I’m sure that will be done, and people like Rand Paul will use the social media sites to get their message across.

Good! You and your conservative friends need to be ready to tell the newly outed CEO of Apple to shut up and keep his desires out of Alabama. He is coming after your state to force his gay feelings into law in Alabama.

Congrats on a great election!

guru,
did any, could anyone, have predicted the election events of the past 7 years? Hillary seemed a good bet in 2007 ... and in 2009: we perhaps foresaw 2010, but after that did you expect Bambi to get re-elected?

And now this?
What is next? Show your work.

When I saw the second and third-rate losers step up to run for President in 2011/12, I knew the GOP was screwed. For about 5 seconds, I thought the country might elect one over the fiasco that is Zero until I realized, as with McCain, Willard served the part of ringer. The joke was on the electorate and the suckers who thought they were offered a choice.

Let’s face facts, the party establishments are in bed together. One is fine with control of the executive, the other with the legislative. It’s a great big fix.

If we see any bonafide change to that M.O. over the next 2 years under “Majority Leader” McConnell, I’ll be shocked. Actual Conservatives/Tea Partiers pose a threat to this arrangement if they start agitating in Congress (and especially now in the Senate). It’s no wonder the establishment hates Cruz. He’ll screw up that cozy little bipartisan arrangement. I hope he doesn’t screw it up. I hope he f’ing BLOWS it up.

we faced a genuine Commie-threat since Pelosi-2006.

The American people have struck a real blow against the Commie-threat. I hope it don’t come back ‘til 2032 or never.
