WASHINGTON -- In an unprecedented step, agents from the federal Drug Enforcement Administration conducted surprise inspections Sunday, targeting the medical and training staffs of visiting NFL teams, in an effort to determine whether they violated federal drug laws governing the handling and distribution of prescription painkillers, "Outside the Lines" has learned.
A federal law enforcement official, with knowledge of the investigation, told "Outside the Lines" the inspections were motivated by allegations raised in a May 2014 federal lawsuit, filed on behalf of several prominent NFL players, who allege team physicians and trainers routinely gave them painkillers in an illegal manner to mask injuries and keep them on the field.

“The Drug Enforcement Administration is investigating claims of inappropriate distribution of painkillers by NFL teams, following a recent lawsuit filed by former NFL players, and have agents on site at several NFL stadiums Sunday to question team doctors and trainers, according to a law enforcement source.”
It sounds plausible that some of this is due to the “recent lawsuit by former NFL players” as the article says.
Still, DEA, does this mean Holder sent out orders? I wonder where the order to carry this out came from.
Anyone ever see Obola throw a football?
that sounds like a great plan!
can we do it to all congressional and executive offices next?
You mean the NFL, where every team gets the same share of TV revenue regardless of how much they suck, as opposed to the Premier League where bad teams get relegated.
Politically STUPID!!!!
God help him if they find ANYTHING that affects an NFL team.
I remember that.
Yes, And that Clintooon lawsuit that went against MS started the stock market to take a big nose dive.
This will make the baseball steroid issue look like peanuts.
If those doctors and trainers were smart, they would refuse to answer any questions from the DEA without an attorney present.
Next...NASCAR.
....Sincerely,
Barack Obama
One can also bet lebron james also was asked to say what he did about not letting his kids play football by this dictatorship. All part of plan for NFL to pony up.
LOL! you can't believe that. The "N" in NFL is "non-profit"
Not sure about socialist, but a huge majority of the NFL players and many of the coaches and owners are Baraqqi partisans.
It seems obvious to me that this is little more than phase two of diverting attention from the Gruber videos!
Phase one was the rape allegations against Bill Cosby, by trying to kill two birds with one stone. First, it diverts attention away from Gruber, and second, it thoroughly demonizes a celebrity that is (shudder)both black and relatively conservative.
Look for phase three in a few days.
How low can they go? We are a couple years away from finding that out.....
This is what the FBI is concerned about?
Ha ha...the NFL sucks up to the politically correct Team Obama and gets this as a reward.
By the way, doesn’t the DEA have anything better to do than raid elite athlete’s?
How much cocaine is getting over the Mexican border tonight?
You have to read between the lines a bit. Distributing or providing a federally controlled drug without a physician’s license and a lawful prescription for the drug is a crime. If a team physician is not licensed in the locality of the game, it is at least arguable that he cannot prescribe any medication there. He also should not be treating any players, but treatment, without use of a federally regulated drug, is entirely a state issue, so the DEA would have no jurisdiction over that.
Now, does anyone think that the NFL is the only sports organization that uses traveling team physicians? This could be big. The Feds could expand their vendetta against locally undocumented physicians to every major sport and lots of college teams.
