NEW YORK (AP) — The gunman who fatally ambushed two New York City police officers in their squad car had a long criminal record, a hatred for police and the government and an apparent history of mental instability that included an attempt to hang himself a year ago, police said Sunday.
Ismaaiyl Brinsley approached people on the street moments before opening fire and asked them to follow him on Instagram, then told them to “watch what I’m going to do,” Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said.
A portrait of the shooter emerged as big-city police departments and union leaders warned officers to change up their routines and insist on extra backup a day after Brinsley carried out what he portrayed online as retaliation for the slayings of black men at the hands of white police.

I just read in a Dutch newspaper that in Dijon, France someone ran his car into a crowd while shouting Allah Akbar.

The charge that Garner died because of a choke hold is absolute hog wash. He died of an asthma attack on the way to jail. If you can’t breathe, you can’t talk. Ask anyone who has ever choked on food, if they could have yelled, “I can’t breathe!” It’s impossible because to make a sound, air has to pass your vocal cords, impossible if you are choking.
Surely the wicked media knows this basic fact, but keep repeating the lie.

On the video, he clearly said he couldn’t breathe when taken to the ground and with the officer’s arm around his neck. It’s also very hard to suffocate to death in an asthma attack without a lot of ugly visuals to make it clear to anyone who takes even a glance that one is in serious trouble. Let’s not call it an over-reaction by officers so much as negligence after the arrest. The weird thing about our Justice system is that even dirt bags, with a history of being dirt bags aren’t on the list of where one can just ignore their right to life. I hate that cops are now being targeted as most are upstanding men and women, but this one leaves a sour taste in my mouth even if it doesn’t devolve into murder by cop. The instigators are doing a good job - they are now creating a divide among the populace in general about cops - - - this will not end well and will likely result in more cases where we see the worst of cops and “authority”. Hopefully we will also see and hear about those who act as heroes.
