An American gun company has found a way around the anti-Russia sanctions that have banned imports of the Kalashnikov assault rifle: Make them here, in the U.S.A.
The U.S.-made gun will have same name as the original: AK-47, arguably the most ubiquitous assault rifle in the world.
The gun will be made by American company RWC, which is the official importer and distributor of Kalashnikov AK-47s. The company had to stop importing the guns after the U.S. imposed sanctions in July against Russia for its role in the Ukraine crisis.
RWC said it is not permitted to have any contact with the Russian company, Kalashnikov Concern, which makes the AK-47s.
"We are not permitted to pick up the phone and to talk to them," said Thomas McCrossin, CEO of RWC, which owns the Kalashnikov USA brand. "We were forced to stop doing business with them because of the sanctions."
RWC, based in Tullytown, Pa., has the rights to the AK-47 Kalashnikov brand of guns, which has been produced in the Soviet Union after World War II.

Wish I had acquired a Zastava M75 before they pulled the plug on imports.
Zastava M76
That graphic is causing a disturbance in The Force.
I've heard of Arak. It's the Middle Eastern version of Ouzo.
My condolences on the TBA you suffered shortly after out received them. Those of us in TN and other see states ave suffered far fewer TBAs.
The AR-15 has seen significant improvement over the last fifty years, including the magazine. Magpul made the non-tilting magazine follower, then included that feature into their polymer P-mags, which are constant-curved magazines just like the AK mags.
I've been a research, design, process, construction, and manufacturing engineer. Looks like these guys do everything right.
The VEPR’s are great rifles, but even before the ban I thought the cost/value comparison still put Zastava in the drivers seat.
Well I had to act fast; the AR15’s are still legal to buy in MD if you get the heavy barrel ones. The AK47’s you can still own here but just not buy.
Just like you can’t buy a mag greater than 10 rounds but I drive half an hour into Delaware to get the 30 round mags. (25 round mags for my .308)
Its no accident that MSM outlets always blur the distinction between the true AK-47 and the various semi-auto only variants. The rifles in question are no more AK-47’s than the AR-15 at Wal-Mart is an M-16.
Plenty of the less stupid reporters and probably many of the editors understand the difference, but they don’t care because it doesn’t help them spread their propaganda.
Zastava has built arms for 15 years.
They know what they are doing.
165 yrs
Sweet! Now if they can just start handloading and selling 5.45x39 that’ll complete the circle.
Might be time to buy a new Kalashnikov! They are my favorite line of guns by far.
I’ve got one of them—it’s the best rifle I’ve ever owned.
Blows those aluminum, cheap, unreliable AR’s away IMO.
Where??? What dealer?
The ATF went forward with banning the importation of Saiga shotguns?
A couple years ago I heard they were looking at it, but I thought they decided not to. Geez....
(at least I have mine - wish I’d bought a few)
Obama used an executive order last summer.
Those parts kit prices are gone my FRiend.
