Why is the child punished when it’s the parent who can’t get him to school on time?

Seems to me if the car is unreliable, Mom should invest in a new car, or if that’s not possible, she should plan to leave early. I think the unreliable car is just an excuse.

What we have here is a miniature Third Reich.

Those who can, do.

Those who can't, teach.

Those who can't teach, administrate.

Government schools should be abolished!

Definitely the parent’s fault, but segregating the kid at lunch with a cardboard box like he’s some kind of freak of nature seems excessive.

Remember, he’s not a teenager, or even a pre-teen, he’s a little boy.

Shunning is bullying and abusive and teachers who use it ought to be fired.

My son was made to sit in the hall and when he tried to look in, the stupid imbecile “teacher” taped paper over the glass. I resent her and depise the public school system. The teachers and the parents act like highschoolers themselves. The administrators hate kids and are just there to collect their piece of the government dole.

A very minor punishment for a very minor offense.

What’s the problem?

Once upon a time, I had a “teacher” humiliate me in class.

In retrospect, it was a good thing the other kids were laughing so hard, the “teacher” didn’t hear what I said back to him.

I would have been expelled for sure.

This creep was universally hated by kids and real teachers alike. He only lasted one year there, and was gone.

This is as ridiculous as sending a student to the “thought room” to sit alone so they can think about the rule they broke. I know a student who was sent there only to think, “boy is this stupid - it’s more punishment to be in class.” She sat a read magazines for an hour.

Schools here are opening 2 hours late again due to ice left over from early last night, this has been happening about once or twice a week here.

“The cardboard shield “was never intended to isolate or stigmatize students,” Grants Pass School District added.”

Okay, then, what was the point of doing it, you flipping idiots?

They must think people are stupid.

Seriously, this is an outrage?

this is why kids have social behavior issues now. I know, like everyone else, it can sometimes be difficult to watch, but this is just a kid being taught one of lifes lessons. Even if it isn't his fault for being late, he now knows excuses don't matter, plan ahead and make sure you are on time. He obviously isn't learning it from his guardians. He needs to view his "parent" and incompetent because they are... they can't even get him to school on time. Broken car or not, find a way. Your variables aren't everyone elses problem. Heck, my kid had to spend lunch recess doing dishes in the school kitchen for a week one time for speaking out of turn. Guess what? It worked. He keeps his mouth shut in class now.

My kids know... unless your teacher hits you, don't come home whining. School is their domain, their rules. It's their job to find a way to work within it like everyone else. Life is full of CEO's, police, peers, etc who don't see life they way you do and you have to learn to cope with it in a non-destructive manner. My dad said it just like everyone elses: pick you battles carefully and be willing to see them through to the end. This simply isn't one of them

When I was in school, they marked your late arrivals as "Tardy" and put them on your report card like your grades and other behavior.

IMO, being tardy, especially as a result of the parent, should not give the teacher or school the right to treat the kid like a dunce or an outcast. This is psychologically demeaning.

There probably is more to this story than is revealed, but I still think this is archaic-style shaming and shouldn't be tolerated in the public schools. If he can't get to school on time because of his mom's car problems, it should be a problem discussed between the school and her, not the kid. If he has too many late arrivals over the school year, and the school wants to de-enroll him, fine.

This type of behavior on the part of the teacher and school administrators is as juvenile and childish as young kids can be. Where are the mature adults in this school?

“His momma’s car sometimes doesn’t like to start right up.”

Maybe momma should try starting her car a few minutes earlier.

Problem solved.

There is something wrong with a school that makes a child cry like this. How can he eat and function when being segregated like a criminal. This is sick. The child did nothing wrong. I say child abuse.

This is outrageous! To hurt/segregate/put negative focus on that little boy? Good going teachers.. now you have a kid who will hate school. Do you think he won’t remember the rest of his life sitting behind a board and removed from his “school society?” My ES principal would never, EVER think about doing something like this. Neither would our teachers.

This discipline is misdirected. Momma needs “help” with HER truancy. She is the one who needs to be humiliated. It’s her JOB to get her son to school on time. When the boy becomes a man, employers will not tolerate tardiness.

Those idiot educators are against bullying, unless of course they are doing the bullying. These tiny minds can’t understand that they have created a bullying situation among the students now. This kid will be picked on now because the “educators” have made the case.
