The US Congress will have a say on a nuclear deal with Iran, under a new agreement reached with the White House.
President Barack Obama withdrew his opposition to a bipartisan bill that was unanimously passed through the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
The bill means the administration must immediately send text of a final deal to Congress.
An outline agreement on the future shape of Iran's nuclear programme was reached after marathon talks in April.
The US, Iran, and four other nations have set a deadline of 30 June to finalise a deal which would ease western sanctions in exchange for restrictions on Iran's nuclear programme.
Some Republicans have argued against the deal, saying that Iran has received too many concessions.

While they’re all hiding in underground bomb shelters?
What do you bet it says NOTHING about whether Congress’ “say” has any binding effect or what the penalty will be if the President fails to abide by the outcome?
I believe Obama has already declared that he intends to lift those sanctions himself. This was a chance for the Majority Party in congress to stop him.
They failed.
Excuse me all..but I was always of the understanding that dealings/agreements with other countries, particularly hostile ones, required a TREATY. And treaties were to be proposed by the executive branch and ratified via the legislative branch.
Where am I wrong?
WHY do we need a bill?
Is this some new kind of ‘0bama International Executive order?”
Approval by the Senate is required, 2/3 vote necessary to approve.
Evidently there are two sets of sanctions - one from Congress and one from Doofus.
Doofus never intended to submit anything to Congress. So the Congress decided to get proactive. I want to get more on the details of what the sanctions actually are. I keep hearing they have hurt the Iranian economy.
Honest to God, we FINALLY see some real push back and most folks here will not see it for the positive that it is. Are we beat down that far?
” What do you bet it says NOTHING about whether Congress say has any binding effect or what the penalty will be if the President fails to abide by the outcome?”
I’ll bet my batting avg, which is the highest in recorded history : )
Lead by Boob Corker the DEMs best friend. The committee membership list from both parties has some of the biggest liberals in the senate.
This a serious defeat for Obama. If the Senate votes, it takes 2/3 to approve and I don’t think it can be vetoed. Someone who is a constitutional scholar (not Barry) might correct me, but that’s my understanding.
“Are we beat down that far?”
Yes. It tends to happen after being bent over a couple dozen times.

That’s nice. Hope they all understand that all treaties must be ratified by two-thirds of the Senate.
There is no defeat, until Obama is defeated here.
Congress gives in to Obama again. Not only that, they ignored the Constitution and set up this fake bill to give Obama the green light with his give-away treaty with Iran. The treaty is now anything Obama personally writes. Just for his damn legacy. Congress has no say and certainly we don't.
Daily we are shown the impotence of our elected Congress. Daily Obama reinforces tyranny. Daily they overtax us and over-regulate us. How much longer before we revolt?
573 more days Will we make it? Do we have a moral duty to Water the Tree of Liberty?
Looks like he’s about feed up!
