Dr. Warren Weinstein, an American aid worker held hostage by al Qaeda, was accidentally killed in a U.S. counter-terrorism operation, as was an Italian hostage, Giovanni Lo Porto, and another American who was an al Qaeda leader, the White House announced on Thursday. Officials also announced that a separate operation killed Adam Gadahn, another American who became a prominent al Qaeda member.
The White House said it was unaware the four were present at the sites. President Obama was set to make a statement after 10 a.m. ET.
"The operation targeted an al-Qa'ida-associated compound, where we had no reason to believe either hostage was present, located in the border region of Afghanistan and Pakistan. No words can fully express our regret over this terrible tragedy," the White House said in a statement.
"The President directed that the information being shared today, which was properly classified until now, be declassified and shared with the American people. He takes full responsibility for these operations and believes it is important to provide the American people with as much information as possible about our counterterrorism operations, particularly when they take the lives of fellow citizens.
"The uniquely tragic nature of the operation that resulted in the deaths of two innocent hostages is something we will do our utmost to ensure is not repeated. To this end, although the operation was lawful and conducted consistent with our counterterrorism policies, we are conducting a thorough independent review to understand fully what happened and how we can prevent this type of tragic incident in the future."

Weinstein has lived in the residence in an upscale Lahore neighborhood for several years, Ahmed said. He works for JE Austin Associates Inc., according to Lahore police chief Nayab Haider.
According to the company’s website, the consulting firm is based in Arlington, Virginia. The site says he was heading what the company described as the “Pakistan Initiative for Strategic Development and Competitiveness.”

If I were a hostage I would prefer to die in an airstrike if there wasn’t a really good chance of rescue.

I can’t wait to hear what Harf has to say. Think about all her jeering, eye-rolling, and dismissive comments since January. Think about her facial expression when the reporter asked her if Americans in Yemen will have to swim to safety. She knew all along that Americans were killed in a botched mission. This is all just a big joke to them.

It raised my BP. Adam Gadahn was killed in a separate raid.
I think that was thrown in to blur and diminish the huge mistake made in the death of those hostages.

Believe me, the only reason you are hearing this now is because something fishy was about to be unturned about it. Obama should never be believed.
Perhaps Obama looked at IRS returns, FEC donations, or voting records and found out Dr. Weinstein was a Republican? If so, they probably relished in the "collateral damage" in private, as well as mourn the loss of Adam Gadhan.
