'Inappropriate comment' derails Air Force general's career

A comment deemed ethnically offensive has ended the 34-year career of an Air Force major general, a decorated combat pilot who oversaw about 32,000 personnel.

Air Force officials have not disclosed the specific words that led to the resignation of Maj. Gen. Michael Keltz, commander of 19th Air Force at Joint Base San Antonio-Randolph, Texas.

The comment was made at a public, nonjudicial punishment proceeding, at which a company-grade officer was appealing an Article 15 punishment before Keltz, the convening authority. The hearing was held April 9 in San Antonio.

Article 15 hearings are typically held for minor infractions and can result in certain limited punishments, such as pay forfeiture or extra duty. A person can appeal if he or she feels the punishment is unduly harsh.

Maj. Toni Whaley, a spokeswoman for Air Education and Training Command, confirmed Friday that the comment was an offensive ethnic stereotype in reference to the officer’s alcohol intake, though it was not directed at the individual. She said the Air Force won’t release Keltz’s comment, which resulted in several complaints to the staff judge advocate.

Poltical Correctness is destroying every thread in the fabric of our nation.

It is a cancer that consumes its host from within.

PC will destroy America.

General Patton would never make it in today’s army.

However, general Bruce Jenner would be perfectly at home
(and be promoted more quickly).

Of course, whether that would help win a war so that we could remain a free country where we can debate these issues, is another question...

Yeah, and Lucky Charms are racist too; where’s James O’Keefe when we need him?

I know Keltz has been described as ‘old school’. Which means the PC crowd had it in for him.

With Schaefer, it was just the old ‘loss of confidence’, which could mean anything.

I remember freedom of speech.

That was quite awhile ago, wasn't it?

Military personnel do not have freedom of speech on duty.

“So, an otherwise flawless 34 year career ended due to a single, inappropriate remark. And even an apology won’t excuse it.”

This country would be in a much better position if that rule applied to liberal politicians.

Also, it would not surprise me if the remark referred to “Native Americans.” Having grown up next to an Indian reservation, I know the devastation alcohol has wreaked in that community. (Now will I be banned for an inappropriate remark?)

Just wanted to point out that although these insane PC abuses have been in the news for several years, the Republicans have done exactly nothing to put an end to them. And people should think about that when the meme goes around about how much more they love the military than the democrats. I guess voters feel that this too is a lesser evil.

Well, when the SHTF and the military turns it’s back on us, I can’t really say I will blame them.

Not just on duty, but during disciplinary hearing for a junior officer.

Maybe now it is. But when I was in the USAF, 1970-1974, the general consensus was that the Navy had the flamers.

that was quite awhile ago, wasn't it?

Music in the 60s: Radio stations freely played anti-war folk and rock music. Students read books such as "Black Like Me" and freely discussed from an intellectual standpoint racial distinctions. TV: Archie Bunker, Mash, Hogan's Heroes, Three's Company and The Odd Couple could never happen now. I mention Three's Company and the Odd Couple because they presented their situations without getting into if there was a sexual relationship involved. I laugh at Farenheit 451. In the imagined era, the authorities actually had to burn books to stop people from reading them and people could actually hide in the woods in order to get away from authority.

We live under more control than any restrictive state in the past could even imagine. There's no avoiding constant scrutiny and correction. It's fascism in its purest form....the elite of the private sector accumulate power, assets, and wealth while they implement policies for the gov which controls us.

I think the change happened after VietNam, when those who run things decided they wanted to control and direct protests. It was intensified with busing, which destroyed neighborhoods (minority mostly) and removed the positive leadership from them. Manufacturing going overseas meant people who worked hard to make a decent living were idle; the invasion further undercut mainstream jobs and cultural assimilation. And now technology provides the capability to monitor us constantly and control what we read, hear, and see.

As I type all this, and think it through, I realized something. That's too much stuff we lost. It's not reversible until as a civilization we're at the bottom of the slippery slope, and into the black hole where it ends. Whatever emerges, it won't be peaceful or easy.

He said something to the effect that “Asians can’t hold their liquor” or some such. As someone who’s half Asian I can attest to the veracity of that stereotype. Most can’t. Of course hurting someone’s feelings is enough in this day and age to force the resignation of a decorated combat pilot. We don’t need warriors in our military anymore. We need spineless, ball-less, politically correct progressives who support the Administration’s weird social agenda. We no longer want men in the military to break stuff, kill people, and generally be bad asses to destroy our enemies and protect our nation. We want compliant children who are both Rainbow Warriors and Feminists. God help us....
