There’s Nothing Reaganesque About Donald Trump
The American Spectator ^ | 6/16/15 | Aaron Goldstein

Posted on 06/17/2015 1:26:23 PM PDT by Kartographer

Trump might sing the praises of Reagan today, but when he was in office he sang a far different tune. In The Art of the Deal, Trump wrote this about The Gipper:

Ronald Reagan is another example. He is so smooth and so effective as a performer that he completely won over the American people. Only now, nearly seven years later, are people beginning to question whether there's anything beneath that smile.

What do you think Perot was other than a loose cannon? Lest you forget that Perot pulled out of the race because he said Terrorists were going to kill him and family or some such rubbish. Then he gets back in the race. Another nut case with too much money and no plans.

Trump will never put up the roughly $500 to $800 Million to get the nomination and run on the general election.

“6 years ago is enough for you to excuse the rot from 1984 to 2009”

Nice attempt to hide your ignorance, but it won’t work. You didn’t even know Trump no longer owned the Casino in Atlantic City. Ignorance is bliss for you, I guess.

Here's the big GOP celebrity winner from not long ago.

Did ya hear what Trump said about the Saudis in his speech?

Those in D.C. must have recoiled. Hit ten ring hard.

Big names back Trump tower
Soros, Deutsche Bank said to be in on 90-story building

October 28, 2004|By Thomas A. Corfman, Chicago Tribune staff reporter.

Donald Trump has lined up three New York hedge funds, including money from billionaire George Soros, to invest $160 million in his Chicago skyscraper, a key piece in perhaps the largest construction financing in the city’s history, according to real estatesources and public documents.

BUT...But...but...he is worth 9 Billion Dollars! Maybe we can get George Soros to run? He is worth 24.2 Billion. That’s over twice what Donald has. I bet there are FReepers who just got a thrill up their leg with my suggestion.

You post an article from nearly 12 years ago?

??

I find that a bit odd. I’ve been here a while and I’ve hardly ever seen you post.

In fact I’ve seen a few in the last 24 hours come out of the shadows attempting to discredit Trump with really frivolous dumb stuff.

How inquisitive.

>> how do you call a man who made himself 9 billion dollars in business a charlatan? <<

I call him a guy who inherited a lot of it from his father, and then squandered untold millions in various bankruptcies.

George W Bush was the reason that after 30+ years as a Republican I switched to Independent. Did so back in 2007. You will find no one here who dislikes him more.

Did you miss my question where I asked you about Trumps wanting to ban guns and extend the unnecessary waiting period before buying them? I'm just curious, what you think about that?

Isn’t that the two term Governor of Texas?

Not a celebrity, but the first republican to win a second term in Texas.

Trump is truly just a real estate/TV celebrity, and a 69 year old one at that.

>> I do exempt military leaders like Eisenhower and Grant from this requirement <<

Don’t forget George Washington. He was a reasonably good military leader, although certainly not perfect.

(And BTW, Grant wasn’t such a great POTUS. Maybe fair-to-middling — at least if you ignore all of the corruption that occurred on his watch.)

He took and inheritance? OMG!

He should done what your bureaucrats would have done. Refused the inheritance and instead gave it to Communist China and Mexico.

A compassionate win win.

Well put. I agree. Presidency is not an entry level job: not for Ross Perot, not for Pat Buchanan, not for Alan Keyes, not for Carly Fiorina, not for Steve Forbes, not for Ben Carson ... and a few more I can't recall at the moment.

Even the military generals were exceptional, truly they led the nation in out most existential crisis, the Civil War and WWII, which you can not say about guys like Patreaus and McCrystal, even if they were good generals. So I don't think everyday Generals even get a pass.

Senator, Governor, or VP - that's who Americans elect.

Hillary did the minimum to meet this minimum qualification.

I would even be OK if some news org said: must be one of these to participate in the debates. That would toss out Carly, Trump and Carson, all of whom are gadflies.

I was just commenting. I understand your position although a lot of us will continue comparing every politician to Reagan because he was the last worthy conservative. And I’m not sniping at the Bushes, they had good and bad points and to my thinking weren’t ideal.

George Washington was actually what we would call career politician, he entered elective politics in 1755 and didn’t leave his final office until 42 years later after serving more than a quarter century in various elective offices.

Presidency is not an entry level job?

Right jack, they need to be thoroughly corrupted with years of bureaucratic experience before we cut them loose to run for the White House.

After they’ve been bought off and owned, then they can run for President.

BTW, keep trying to get Trump barred from the debates. 25,000 lobbyist and influence peddlers support that!

I just came across this!

I have a hard time believing Trump will be anything like Reagan.

Here’s Reagan on Christ, our Nation, etc. Good luck Trump.
