"[The flag] shouldn't represent us in any way," Petty says. "We should be more concerned with why the police are killing black men for no reason"

A year or so again, I became bewildered about how a “modern” society like the USA in the 1920’s could have been so colossally and collectively stupid to groupthink their way into the prohibition. I read the book “Last Call” by Daniel Okrent, and I began to understand.

Now, I fully understand.

Rebels - Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers

Honey don't walk out I'm too drunk to follow
You know you won't feel this way tomorrow
Well - maybe I'm a little rough around the edges
Inside a little hollow
I get faced with somethings sometimes That are so hard to swallow - Hey!

[Chorus]
I was born a rebel
Down in Dixie on a Sunday morning
Yeah - with one foot in the grave
And one foot on the pedal
I was born a rebel.

Well she picked me up in the morning
And she paid out my ticket
Yeah she screamed in the car
And threw me out in the thicket
Well - I never would've dreamed
That her heart was so wicked
Oh - but I keep coming back
'Cause it's so hard to kick it.

[Chorus]

Even before my father's fathers
They called us all rebels
Burned our cornfields
And left our cities level
I can still see the eyes
Of those blue bellied devils
When I'm walking round tonight
Through the concrete and metal.
Hey, hey, hey

Hey Tom what are you going to say to your next audience who sits in the audience draped in their confederate flats and jackets? Oh wait maybe they won’t be there anymore since you are so offended by it.

Blacks who are not offended by calling each other the “N” word constantly day and night and rocking to the rap lyrics of all their Hoes and Beaches certainly are not too put off by the Confederate flag.

The best way to ensure that nobody will like you is to sell out in order to be liked. Petty’s song “Last Dance with Mary Jane” should be the theme of the 2016 GOPe convention. This is my last dance with the Republican Party, and only because of Cruz, and to a lesser extent, Walker. With the GOPe selling us out just to be liked by the soviet media after every election I think I’m tired of this town.

Lynyrd Skynyrd

I wanted to clarify the discussion of the Confederate Flag in our recent CNN interview. Myself, the past and present members (that are from the South), are all extremely proud of our heritage and being from the South. We know what the Dixie flag represents and its heritage; the Civil War was fought over States rights.
We still utilize the Confederate (Rebel) flag on stage every night in our shows, we are and always will be a Southern American Rock band, first and foremost. We also utilize the state flag of Alabama and the American flag, ‘cause at the end of the day, we are all Americans.
I only stated my opinion that the confederate flag, at times, was unfairly being used as a symbol by various hate groups, which is something that we don’t support the flag being used for. The Confederate flag means something more to us, Heritage not Hate…

In 1985, I released an album called Southern Accents. It began as a concept record about the South, but the concept part slipped away probably 70 percent or so into the album. I just let it go, but the Confederate flag became part of the marketing for the tour. I wish I had given it more thought. It was a downright stupid thing to do.

Petty is doing his penance required by the entertainment industry's PC overlords.

He'll receive absolution after he has sufficiently debased himself for prior sins.

He got his mind right, so to speak.
