I wish Mitch McConnell would drop dead tonight. May he rot in hell.

Hell yes I would. That is what a leader of the Senate does. If he really wanted the issue to go away, he would have voted yes and it would disappear forever. It is tough understanding the Senate but once you learn how it works then it is easily understood and I 100 percent approve of McConnell’s vote. But I don’t get emotional about procedures like some.

-- That's why! The cloture motion can be reconsidered ad infinitum but it can only be brought up by a `winner' of the cloture vote. --

I agree wuth that, just saying that a failed cloture motion doesn't preclude filing a second, third, fourth, fifth, ad infinitum cloture votes on the same subject. Multiple cloture motions is (or at least used to be) the common method of having "the same" (cloture) vote multiple times.

Anyone who supports politicians whose hands shed innocent Blood will share in the judgment of every abortionist when they stand before God. (Proverbs Chapter 6). You can't get any more innocent that a little baby in the womb. That includes anyone who goes to church on Sunday and sings, claps and falls out "in the Spirit" and then goes into the voting booth on Tuesday and votes for a Party and/or candidate who propagates abortion and same sex marriage. Both are an abomination to God and they will stand before him and receive the same judgment as the Planned Parent hood butchers.

That’s correct. It was because of another one of those arcane Senate rules, which allows the Majority leader to bring the bill back up again at any time. Reid use to do this all the time.

Exactly. If he voted yes and it failed, he could not bring it up again. After each of the remaining videos to be released, he will bring it up again and again for a vote.

Using the parliamentary maneuver to allow reintroduction isn’t “playing a game” - it is using the rules to allow later consideration.

I do not know how he really stood on the issue. I do know that if he voted for cloture and it failed, then the door was slammed shut much more permanently. What happens now will determine if his vote was to preserve viability of the bill or not.

I definitely agree the vote should have passed, and PP absolutely must be defunded. Personally, I support the full prosecution of any and all PP personnel who are involved with these illegal acts. That includes any doctors, nurses, and all the way down to secretaries who are aware of the illegal actions. The executives need very long prison terms.

Because of the rules of the Senate, McConnell’s vote does not necessarily mean he supports the evil that is PP. His actions to come will show what he believes, IMO.

He has to face God soon, with the Lake of Fire awaiting him.

Perhaps.....but it is wrong for us to sit on our laurels because he may get his comeuppance in the afterlife. WE must ACT .

When cloture fails, the underlying issue is still alive, and still a subject of unlimited debate. The fact that bills or amendments "die" is not the result of a failed cloture motion, it is a choice by the majority leader.

If the majority leader is determined to pass something, he keeps it the matter of debate, and if he wants, he (along with the requisite number of senators) can file another cloture motion on the same subject.

I don't disapprove of him keeping the subject alive either, but holding the cloture motion over for reconsideration is not the only way, and procedurally, is an odd way.

Until we lay the murder of 1.34 Billion innocent and defenseless little boys and girls at the feet of the only entity in the whole world that has the lawful right to kill based on convenience, we will never stop it and it is folly to believe it can be stopped without doing so.

Mothers have killed more people, in just 34 years, than all of the world’s wars and health epidemics throughout history combined.

Can we even comprehend the magnitude of this evil? The deadliest place in the whole world for a human is NOW in their own mother’s womb.

Just giving a reputable citation instead of the execrable WashPost...
Riddick’s Rules pg 325:
“Reconsideration of Cloture Motion: In 1980, the Chair ruled that a motion to reconsider a vote by which a cloture motion was defeated was in order by any Senator voting with the prevailing side...”

-- ... if he voted for cloture and it failed, then the door was slammed shut much more permanently. --

Not at all. There is no limit to the number of times cloture can be invoked on a single subject.

-- What happens now will determine if his vote was to preserve viability of the bill or not. --

That is certainly true.

One thing that most people mistake is that a failed cloture vote = bill/matter is dead. That is a false belief. Cloture is used to limit debate, not kill a bill. The way to kill a bill is with a motion to table. If a motion to table passes (simple majority, cloture is not involved), the thing is dead.

Thank you. I’m too angry about this to think through the possibility that there may have more to the story.

I don't disagree that reconsideration of cloture is possible - my point is that it is not necessary.

The procedure for reconsideration is well established (it's applied to EVERY (non-cloture) vote that passes, you'll hear a call to lay the motion to reonsider on the table), and it appears motion to reconsider a cloture motion was unheard of before 1980.

It looks to me like McConnell voted no for tactical reasons. I won’t say I can explain why, but neither should we fault him if that is all ti was.

This is a no Brainer! Defund PP. People think that pp is a gift...that they do so much good...pp is coming down a lot in the eyes of the public and now I can fight back with the truth about what they are really all about. You just have to say “baby parts?!” then watch the reaction. People actually squirm.
