Homeschoolers in Wisconsin will soon be able to participate in public school sports, thanks to a new measure recently signed into law by Governor Scott Walker.
Previously, homeschooled students in Wisconsin were not allowed to play on public school sports teams. But Scott Woodruff of the Home School Legal Defense Association says the new law allows them to try out for teams at public schools.
I think for many folks who were initially opposed to it, it was almost kind of a turf issue, he says. People thought, Okay, homeschool students might be part of our community, but they dont attend this public school, so they cant be on the team even though their parents fund the program through their tax dollars."
He says Governor Walker did veto a small section of the bill prohibiting school districts from being members of athletic associations that do not require member districts to comply with the law. That veto led to some confusion about what the law actually says.
The necessary part of the bill was in paragraph A, where it says that a school board shall permit a homeschooled student to participate in sports, the attorney explains. So the part the governor vetoed was nonessential, but a couple of organizations misunderstood his veto and publicly said homeschoolers cant play sports, which of course is wrong, and that created a lot of confusion.
Wisconsin is now the 31st state to allow homeschoolers to play on public school teams.

Yep. We all pay, us property owners.
My point is that people who radiate HATE for schools ought not to expect to jam
their kidlets into the athletic programs of the schools they hate so much.
then I think in that case, the school district should refund the money back to the parents that they are taking so that homeschooling parents can purchase the services of a coach, equipment, facilities, etc. Your analogy is flawed, by the way. Tell me, are you in high school? Your arguments would certainly make sense to high school students, but not to adults paying high property taxes.
Hum, YOU don’t get it. You’ve dug yourself a huge ditch and can’t extract yourself from it.
I’ll give you credit, you’ve done an incredible impersonation of the public school union thugs and their mindlessness. They were just as execrable when I was in that Stalinist meat grinder 35 years ago as they are today.
It’s amazing the insight you have into all the hearts and minds of the home schooled children and their families.
NOT
I think that you should begin sentences with capital letters.
Your analogy is flawed, by the way.
Really? Hating something and expecting to benefit from it is really all good and happy?
Tell me, are you in high school?
Yeah, I'm dating both your daughters.
Look, homey.. spewing hate for something and then expecting something from it is kind of ate-up.
No.
If you hate it, then you want no part of it.
Yet you DO want part of it... so your hate is fake.
BOOM.
Clever.
Dodges the point, but still.. so clever.

Where?
I'd like to see that site.
I don’t have any kids and I don’t give a damn about high school sports. Do I get my money back because I don’t participate in any of it?
This is not the 50's and "be true to your school" went out the window a long time ago.
Few students are in any school for more then a couple of years in any case.
Then non-participants ought not pretend to be part of a team they know nothing about.
Sorry, little Chauncey and young master Fauntleroy need to
form their own teams, apart from those low-life peasants
in those detestable schools their parents hate so much.
Not too familiar with high-school football in Texas, are you?
“Fine.. Im not the CEO of Exxon, can I still get the benefits?”
Think of it this way: You pay the CEO of Exxon, and since you pay him, you get to tell him what to do.
That’s sort of what it is like for taxpaying homeschool families. They pay for the school sports programs, so (now) their kids get to play, if they want.
Sure.
And young master Chauncey, protected all his life from the
lower classes, will be embraced as the Godlet he is by the
plebian underclassers already on the team...
Or maybe knocked the hell out for being a wanker.
Pick the most likely.
“Just seems like folks that disdain a whole system ought not to be able to pick and choose parts they like.”
Seems?
If you are advocating giving homeschoolers (whatever the reason) their money back so they can start their own athletic programs, your suggestion may have some potential merit.
Otherwise - sports are a non-academic activity - it “seems” entirely consistent to me.
You had it right with your first three words... you think not. You don’t even come close to a defendable position unless you think you can proclaim that every single homeschooler is an elitist wanker... (in which case you are a bigot in addition to a nannystate cheerleader).
You don’t get to decide what or how people get to educate their kids and now neither does the school system.
BTW, are there any other government programs that you don’t think anyone can have issues with? If I don’t like the EPA can I not breathe air? If I think that disarming our armed forces on their own military bases is a horrible thing... am I not allowed to enjoy the protection of our armed forces? Am I not allowed to drive on roads if I think our MPG standards have cost lives in crashes by making cars less safe? While you are waving your scepter pretending to be king of the world... I’d like to know just how far your delusion goes...
Obviously it doesn’t extend to controlling bloggers :) You only get to harass them.
Do you surface to circulate and make friends like this often?
What a hoot you growly old s—t-disturber!
lol
