Italian lesbian author gets papal blessing
Yahoo News India ^ | August 28, 2015 | AFP

Pope Francis has sent his blessing to a lesbian author of children's books dealing with same-sex families, wishing her and her wife well in their work, it emerged on Friday. As Vatican officials scrambled to clarify that the message was simply a standard courtesy which did not signal any change in Church teaching on the subject, the author told AFP she had been pleasantly surprised to have received such a positive response.

Francesca Pardi, who writes and publishes books such as "Why you have two mummies", wrote to Francis in June after the publishing company she runs with her wife came under fire from Christian groups. She included examples of her works, some of which have recently been controversially withdrawn from nurseries and primary schools by a new mayor in Venice.

"My books present different types of families without setting any of them up as a model," Pardi told AFP, praising the pope for having responded in a manner that showed "respect and dignity" towards her, her wife and their four children.

"It was not important for me that it was the pope who said it, I am not a Catholic. But it is important to see that we are not up against a wall. A dialogue is possible," she added. "Books are to be opened, to be read and to be criticised. What you don't do is ban them."

In his message, the pope wished the two women "ever more fruitful work in the service of young generations and in spreading authentic human and Christian values." Francis has signalled that he wants the Church to adopt a more pragmatic and understanding approach to the situation of believers living in gay relationships, an attitude reflected in his famous "who am I to judge" remark on the subject...

South American Jesuit = Liberation Theologist

As soon as the world discovered the Pope was a South American Jesuit it was a good bet he was a marxist/leninist.

JP2 got rid of a lot of them, but he missed this one.

We are going to be getting regular doses of extreme liberalism and communist blather from the RCC for years and years to come.

He is no longer pope. To be pope you have to be Catholic.

The responses in this thread are absurd.

The letter is obviously a generic form letter response from a staff member thanking for a gift of many books.

The way it is written, it would appropriate response for anyone including a satanist or atheist.

Here is the actual quote:

“His holiness is grateful for the thoughtful gesture and for the feelings which it evoked, hoping for an always more fruitful activity in the service of young generations and the spread of genuine human and Christian values,”

There are two parts, one merely thanking for the thoughtful gesture and feelings evoked — thanks for the books the gift was a nice thought and I appreciate that you gave me a gift.

The second part expresses hope for the future — it says I hope in the future you do a better job serving humanity and christianity. This is an equally good thing to say no matter how “good” a christian the person is. Hey, no matter how you’ve done in the past, I hope you do a better job in the future.

No one should expect a book critique or character evaluation in a generic thank you letter for a gift of many books.

There is nothing in the quote that shows it was tailored to the person written. And it isn’t even from the pope, it’s from a staff member.
There are clear signs it is a generic form letter.

Even homosexuals?
It’ll be interesting to see what Catholic sites say about this blessing.

The article and lesbian didn’t say anything about sending a copy of her book to the Pope.

Well, it’s from Yahoo, which is very pro-homosexual. The letter sounds like a thank you, but the lesbian said she wasn’t Catholic, and said NOTHING about sending the Pope a copy of her book. Sounds like she’s trying to get her book into more schools. I bet the Catholic websites reveal the truth about this lesbian’s shenanigans.

However this has to stop. It's seriously wrong, and sends a highly corrupting message. Blessings aren't tchotchkes or souvenirs and this lady and her book definitely didn't need to be "haloed" with a papal blessing.

Well said.

That would be funny, to send a CD of Baptist worship music to the pope and get the blessing....

I reread the article. She wrote to Pope Francis after her books came under fire from Christian groups. She “included examples of her works.” But I don’t understand why the Pope, or whomever, wrote about the service of young generations.

I also reread your post, and I think your correct that she doesn’t need to be “haloed.”

I’d respect the denomination too much to pull any prank on it, even if it is obvious they are asleep at the wheel.
