During his “60 Minutes” interview Sunday, Republican presidential front-runner appeared to come out in favor of a form of single payer health insurance for the uninsured ... and openly called for raising taxes on the wealthy.

Obamacare modified, as far as I can tell, but he’s all over the place.

If we get a Republican president there’s no excuse for not repealing it.

Feel free to answer the question instead of evading it.

Let me clarify the question:

The borders have been a violent lawless war zone for 30+ years.

Cruz has been in office down in Texas for about 12 years I believe. When did he come out as a big closed borders and anti-illegal guy? In 2012, 2014?

If you will put your bias aside for a moment you can see by the transcript that he was constantly cut off before he could answer with a complete sentence.

He clearly said, and has been saying since at least 2011, that Obamacare is a disaster, he wants you to be able to purchase insurance across state lines, and also said in his book that he wants serious tort reform including loser pay.

I plan to wait until he publishes his complete policy on healthcare before making a judgement on it.

I think he might have a new creative way at dealing with low income healthcare when he talks about negotiating with hospitals. At any rate, we will see in time.

In my opinion he hit home runs with immigration, second amendment, and tax reform.

As a nurse since 1979, I can assure the poor have always had single payer healthcare paid for by the government—it is called Medicaid.

The rich who have used loopholes to pay far less taxes than the average citizens might consider the loss of those loopholes as an increase. I for one call it fair to the rest of us who can’t afford the fancy lawyers.

I thought Trump was going to have Canadian Health Plan. Gee the Canadians are so eager to have their surgeries done in the US that medical facilities that are across from Canadian Territory are flooded by Canucks - Detroit Metropolitan Area and Sault Sainte Marie, MI.

"I think what he was saying that for those unable to afford health insurance there would be a safety net, but that will be a very basic coverage. The rest go into the marketplace and get the most they can. That simply is not universal healthcare.

We still don't have universal access. healthcare.gov funnels you into the same plan with different deductibles. Where is a variety of plans? And why healthcare.gov, and the shortened enrollment period unless you meet 7 requirements. I should be able to buy a policy from "Jake from State Farms" at three in the morning 365 days a year in my PJ's while he is in his Khaki's. And where is the uniformity of Tax Deductability? Their is none, all these poor folks buying from the website are buying with after tax dollars.

Mr Trump is your team lurking here? These problems I mentioned are easy to fix.

Ditto that allowing Direct Primary Care Plans to be paid for with HSA and or FSA pre-tax dollars. All you need is a Congress to vote Yea after it has been written into a bill...

I watched the interview and yes he did say he was for universal coverage but I don’t think he said single payer (distinction without a difference?) Anyhow he then went on to start describing what sounded like introducing more market forces but Scott Pelly didn’t query him further. I could be wrong but I remember as I watched that exchange going uh-oh and then going oh he’s talking about buying insurance across state lines thing again. I think we need more information.
Don’t worry I’m sure he’ll tell us eventually.
Right now he is on a listening tour. He talks we listen

Thank you - not sure if it clears up his position but at least for me helps me see exactly what he said. Looks like I’ll be waiting for one of his position papers.

I don’t think he has had a chance to make his position clear yet.

I know what he said in his book but that was back in 2011 when he wasn’t running so I am going to wait to hear what he has to say now.

Get a grip people. Quoting Trump from the interview:

“But for the most it’s going to be a private plan and people are going to be able to go out and negotiate great plans with lots of different competition with lots of competitors with great companies and they can have their doctors, they can have plans, they can have everything.”

How in the world is that single-payer or “Trump Pushes Single Payer”?

The headline is a complete lie and totally contradicts Trump’s quote.

Trouble is that the Obamacare circus said so many things like this (and then promptly did the opposite) that people are now permanently jaded. The angels and devils are in the details. In general the more free (as in choice) the system the better.

Looks like Breitbart pulled the article or at least removed it from its prominent position. It’s still available when you click on it, but I see it nowhere on their website.

You do know poor people go to hospitals now? Free?

So you're saying that nobody has to pay for the poor person's visit to the hospital? Really?

Cruz said that he would release a bill to empower Americans to purchase health insurance across state lines, creating a "true national market." Insurance can only be purchased intra-state at present.

Would the bill also force those out-of-state insurance companies to sell to you?

I just finished reading his tax plan, nowhere in it did he say he was gonna raise taxes on the rich.

He did say that he was going to repeal a lot of deductions the very rich enjoy. Now whether the increase in taxable income results in paying more taxes even with the lower tax rates depends on the individual I'm sure.
