Gresham Police say a driver suspected of smoking marijuana slammed his Toyota Prius into a 46-year-old Portland woman at a Gresham intersection Monday sending the woman flying 35 feet.

The collision took place at 8:09 a.m. at the intersection of East Burnside Street and Northeast 181st Avenue. The woman, who Gresham Police did not identify, was attempting to cross Burnside on a marked crosswalk. The accident comes just just five days after retail recreational marijuana sales became legal in Oregon.

The driver was probably up all night toking up and would soon be headed to bed.

Instead of jumping to conclusions, you might want to get the facts straight before hand. In places like LA and other venues some pedestrians will literally walk directly into a vehicles direction of travel without so much as looking. People are extra stupid nowadays and were never taught when they were 5 years old not to do that

Seen it a million times and see this almost daily. There seem to be little details other than the pedestrian was in a crosswalk. In fact, I've seen some real dead pedestrians and bicyclist who died simply based on their own stupidity. Like walking in a crosswalk directly into the path of on coming vehicles. I noted the witnesses nor anyone else even mentioned if the intersection was light controlled or stop sign controlled intersection.

But I do agree, if the driver was smoking pot when driving then he was at least guilty for doing that. If the pedestrian walked directly into the path of an oncoming vehicle without so much as looking, then yes, the pedestrian is also a party to this stupidity.

There are lots of dead people who were dead right.

Alcohol related deaths numbered better than 13,000 in 2010.

Death penalty for them as well? Hasn’t happened yet and we have stats going back decades.

What’s the hardest part of driving a Prius? - Telling your parents that you’re gay.

This will be an interesting comparison between Colorado and Oregon. Both have legal pot, but Colorado has legalized ride sharing companies like Uber, where Oregon seems to be siding with the taxi companies. Since Uber seems to be primarily a way to shuttle drunks around, Colorado should have lower drunk/high traffic arrests and fatalities if people use Uber/taxis more.

So you would rather use the iron fist of government to stop pot smoking but not do anything to stop the drinking of alcohol? Prohibition worked so well the first time, let’s do it again.

Druggies always bring up alcohol as if two wrongs make a right. Firstly, druggies are so stupefied that they fail to understand that punishment for alcohol caused death and injury has been moving towards first degree murder. Right now in my lifetime, in California, punishment for causing death while drunk has gone from misdemeanor “Reckless Driving” to “Second Degree Murder.” (I knew the lawyer that got the first conviction of a drunk causing death in California.) Grow up and face facts druggies are dangerous stupid people without care or concern for their Social Harm. They care only for their “Fix.”

Nothing to see here. Just another victimless drug crime. /sarc/

Of course, this never would have happened if marijuana was still illegal in Oregon.

He’ll get off easy, since he was driving a Prius (Pious). His environmental sensitivity trumps his irresponsible driving behavior.

/sarc, but with liberals, who knows?

The pedestrian didn't die. You might want to pay attention and read the article prior to commenting. It really helps occasionally.☺

Someone smoking pot at 8 in the morning didn’t start just 5 days ago...correlation does not imply causation.

The result was foreseen. The law was passed anyway. Therefore the legislators are responsible for this.
