News broke Tuesday morning that retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson now leads the Republican presidential field not only in Iowa but also in a national New York Times/CBS News poll. And that means just one thing for Wednesday nights debate in Boulder, Colorado: Carson will be under fire. How the GOP races newest front-runner fields the attacks will offer another angle on a candidate who is only beginning to face real scrutiny.
Carson is known for his calm, soft-spoken demeanor. Over the course of his acclaimed surgical career at Johns Hopkins Medical Center in Baltimore, he earned the moniker Gentle Ben. That reputation, his devout Christian faith and his position as a political neophyte have drawn primary voters to him. A recent Washington Post/ABC News poll found that Republicans viewed Carson as the most honest of their candidates and believed he had the best personality and temperament to serve effectively as president. Pundits panned his two previous debate performances, knocking him for being vague and unaggressive. But it didnt hurt his standing with voters. In fact, hes only gained strength since.

Only natural to pile up on the front runner.
NYT/CBS and whoever any of the media pay to push polls for Carson are wasting their time and money. I’m never going to vote for Carson.
And I have yet to find one person who will vote for him.
He’s ahead in ONE POOL and in ONE STATE... and the media got their panties all wet that this is the death ofr Trump’s campaing, even though he is trouncing all the compteition everywhere else.
I like Ben Carson as a person, but I do not want him as president. I want him on Trump’s cabinet
The media? I expect any moment now for some pundit to explain to me why Jeb is the real winner in those polls. (sarcasm, I think)
He gives a mixed message which makes no sense most of the time.
Then there's his tangents...Hitler and weapons is one of them. Makes more sense to use the Revolutionary War since the British were coming to confiscate the Colonists weapons.
Just don't trust the guy.
I agree with the FR poster who said Trump should go easy on Carson, even treat him in a gentlemanly fashion. (I forget which poster.)
Is that who you want dealing with ISIS, Putin and China's leader?
One national poll does not make you a frontrunner especially since two national polls yesterday said different. But that one poll where one is ahead will still make you a target.
There are about a dozen different ways that a smart candidate could trap Ben Carson into destroying himself with the GOP base electorate, simply by tricking him into clarifying his positions on the issues on which he is liberal, like gun control, illegal immigration, fetal tissue research, etc.
“Just don’t trust the guy. “
That’s where I am and have been from the beginning. His support mystifies me.
Now Vladimir, I don't want to raise a ruckus. Could you please just stop invading your neighbours and countries all over the Middle East? It's really not nice, and I hate to even bring it up...
This is the time for someone to prove that Carson is weak and non-conservative.
He’s SURGING!! at his mother with a hammer.
America is ill, in order to prevent it from going terminal, we need a “can do” President who will cut through the BS and DELIVER what the country needs on all fronts.
Carson is a great physician, that's his forte, that's where he belongs. He has the patience of a surgeon but he is just NOT Presidential material, he's low energy and boring. He won't be able to be bold and move Washington or the nation out of the emergency room and into good health. The media want him because he will lose to Hilliary, plain and simple.
Well...frontrunner or not....he’s clearly gaining in the polls...the only one competitive with DT as far as I can tell. Dr. Carson seems to be getting especially strong traction in IA right now. Of course these polls are always subject to change. I remember in 2012, Rick Perry was leading in the polls for a while. Then Herman Cain. Then Newt.
>> Thats where I am and have been from the beginning. His support mystifies me. <<
I feel the same way about Trump.

[A Surging Ben Carson Likely to Be Chided at GOP Debate]
Chided? I believe a better word would be VETTED.
