Republican presidential candidate Ted Cruz said Monday he does not support banning all Muslims from entering the country, distancing himself from an inflammatory proposal by rival Donald Trump.
Earlier Monday, the billionaire frontrunner for the GOP nomination called for "a total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country's representatives can figure out what is going on." Cruz weighed in on the proposal while campaigning in South Carolina, where he was asked if he would support a policy barring Muslims from coming into the United States.
"No, that is not my policy," the Texas senator told reporters.

Ted Cruz Wants to Increase H-1B Visas From 65,000 to 325,000 Annually
I like both of these guys, but Cruz’s response gives the edge to Trump in my view.
Hang in there, Trump!
I’ve been a big Cruz supporter. But this is a problem for me.
Trump wanted to stop this thing until America could come up with a reasoned policy. Cruz might not be entirely wrong here. Maybe he sees the futility of trying to do that under Barack Obama, maybe he sees we’d get some tortured thing that worsened the problem like gun control worsens crime.
Not smart Teddy. Especially when you are 20 pts behind.
Rafael is now PC.
I’m for both....but will see how this plays out. We have a loooooong time ‘til next November.
Well, why isn’t it?
It is just a moratorium. Frankly I thought it was a very brave proposal by Trump. He is right, of course, but no one is really brave enough to agree.
I still love Cruz.
Like a 4% Candidate has anything worth saying
FioRINO on O' Reilly couldn't answer his questions because she had a Speech she wanted to give not answer questions.
Hey Carly what was that K-1 Visa's girl address in Pakistani?
And how will we know if a person trying to enter the US is a Muslim?
Ask?
Trust that terrorists won’t lie?
Those eyes are dead all the way to the soul.
Here’s where the Christian side of Cruz ought to shine, if it is up to the task (and it might not be). Does he have some plan to screen the incoming that would exclude the haters? Even yet it’s troublesome because “moderates” can flip and in a certain spiritual atmosphere it is more likely.
I agree. People will move to Trump because of this. Cruz is still too soft on immigration and to free trade for his own good.
My money is on Cruz and the Arab money from the $audis$ and Gulf Arab$ is on the GOPe lineup from Jeb to Marco to Christie and so on, not to mention Hillary Clinton.
Donald Trump has his own $$$$$ and I’m not going to trash him for saying what he said.
A shutdown of immigration is needed in some form. Rand Paul pushed an amendment that only got a handful of senators including Ted Cruz and Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee and a some others in support.
It was an amendment to shut down immigration from 30 terrorist infested nations for a review to take place.
Trump may be tying to head that off with his proposal.
It should Cruz’s and EVERYONE Republican candidate’s policy. This is why Trump stands out from the rest.
Go Trump!
This is a huge problem, we can’t have a president squishy on muslim invasion!
Agree. The time for timidity is past.
