Let's say that the GOP-E does engineer a brokered convention and through backroom deals and other assorted skullduggery manages to foist Rubio or Jefe on Conservatives, how do the party poo-bahs expect people to react???

They can't be this dumb...

GOPEs will discover how much they’re overmatched by a master deal-maker/negotiator

Presumably, all the RNC honchos have homes and mortgages, and don't want to get fired. They have absolutely no skills, none, that can be used for anything that pays money, except for their jobs at the RNC. Trump needs to keep them in line by reminding them of that. "You work for me now. Cross me and you'll be counting chads in Anchorage."

On an article that was the basis of an earlier thread, I read about some rule changes concerning the convention which were presented as being pro-establishment, but not enough rules were given to make things clear—and only by working through things in the real world will one see actual results.

26 states are early (before March 15) and only 25 states are winner-take all, with all of this later group except for S.C. being after March 15. To have one’s name placed in nomination, one needs a majority in eight state delegations, which means winning at least a third of the winner take all states OR making up where one falls short in the winner take all category by taking an absolute majority in one of the earlier proportional states.

To be assured of a win on the first ballot going in, one needs to be nominated (probably courtesy of the winner-take-all states) and have done well enough in the proportional states to be put over the top by the winner-take-all states.

What is not clear is what happens if either (a) no one has the minimum of eight states or (b) what happens to the delegates of those people who are not nominated.

At this point, I don’t see anyone other than Cruz and Trump picking up the eight state minimum, so I’d think that the high barrier to entry should back-fire against the establishment.

I’m pissed that advisers for Rubio and Bush were there.

Why?

Were there advisers from all the candidates there?

No.

This stinks to high heaven.

Well, the building would burn down first, so I’d hate to be the flunky that had to make that announcement.

Remember how the GOP-E changed the rules in 2012 for the 2016 convention to ostensibly help President Romney fend off a primary challenge?

I do not want to see Trump as the party’s nominee, but if he does win the nomination under the rules as they now exist I would completely oppose any attempt to manipulate the convention to prevent him from being selected.

Too many of the states award the delegates proportionally so that it will be difficult to have a clear majority.

The prix-fixe three-course meal at the Source, an upscale Asian fusion restaurant near the Capitol, was part of a regular invitation-only dinner series hosted by Priebus in which he solicits candid input from party leaders. Those familiar with Monday’s deliberations spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe a private matter.

Anonymity? Invitation only? A private party of insiders? Private matters? These people just reek.

Up until now, I had never considered going the third party route because I figured it would virtually guarantee victory to the Dems. But if the GOP tries pulling a fast one by using a bogus contested convention to crown an establishment-approved nominee who would only serve to perpetuate the Big Government Uniparty, then third party I will go!

Ah, but imagine how quickly the GOPEs will discover how much they’re overmatched by a master deal-maker/negotiator — A man who doesn’t take “No” for an answer.

Thankfully we have a fighter this time.

Their actions stink to high heaven but they have never had to deal with a TRUMP before.

They are hoping to have enough delegates to broker the convention The only way that will happen is if they cheat

So they are not total wimps and do have the ability to fight after all, at least when their own power is threatened. Hmmm. These people need to be brought down.

They hid it well, didn’t they? Of course against Democrats they cave to bipartisanship. Against conservatives they fight, for what principle? They demanded allegiance from the candidates. Now where is theirs?
