It’s Cruz, not Trump, who looks more like favorite to win GOP nomination
WaPo ^ | 12-13-2015 | Chris Cillizza

The Iowa caucuses are seven weeks away. Donald Trump is still the Republican front-runner. Sen. Marco Rubio is, for now, the establishment’s best (only?) hope. And Sen. Ted Cruz is the guy who looks best positioned to win.

Yes, you heard that right.

Cruz (R-Tex.), as of today, has the most direct route to the Republican presidential nomination — assuming that the past history of GOP nomination fights works as a broad predictor of where the 2016 race is headed.

Let me elaborate.

1. Cruz is positioned as the most conservative candidate in the race. Although Trump gets all the attention for his over-the-top statements, Cruz has staked out a position on the far right on virtually every major hot-button issue, including immigration, Obamacare, national security and the fight against the Islamic State militant group. And, tonally, Cruz comes across as aggressively and unapologetically conservative — a less controversial and more electable version of real estate magnate Trump.

If Trump were to go against Hillary he would unleash a non stop barrage of truthful, yet derogatory, facts about her in his bombastic style and the media would play the "Lazio card" in order to make her a victim of bullying. In formal debates she would probably appear to be getting the better of him by spewing endless policy wonk psycho babble to which he may not have good responses.

On the other hand; Cruz knows how to play the PR game pretty well and he would probably issue some factual statements about failures of government and then when it comes to TV debates, leave her helpless both in her inability to tell the truth and his courtroom style that would enable him to rebut her lies and "look squirrel" track jumping responses.

The Cartel just goes down the list, starting with whoever is leading and/or has momentum. Get rid of Trump, then Cruz, then on to the next and on to whoever ends up being the nominee.

It doesn’t matter who the Rep candidate is, he/she will be vilified by the forces on the Left as a racist, sexist, homophobe, islamophobe, transgenderphobe, whateverphobe who cares only for the “1%” and wants to take your welfare away.

In the end the death spiral tightens and the country eventually makes a smoking hole in the ground taking everyone with it. Except the Ruling Class, of course. They have parachutes. The proletariat is plentiful and can be easily replaced.

More WaPo garbage. I like both Cruz and Trump but I’m voting for Trump. I don’t think Cruz can outspend the Democrats and Republicans to beat a “criminal” as the Democrat opponent. Democrats will spend and do anything to win - lie, cheat, abuse our election system and crook their way to victory. The Republican establishment does not like Cruz but will feed him to the dogs come election day. They will give Cruz just enough money to stay in the race but not win. Trump, on the other hand, doesn’t need Republican elite money and can have his way with the press anytime he wants.

He may have all the talking points in the world in his favor, but too bad Cruz doesn't have that "soul" connection with the folks...and zotz charisma, to boot.

It’s not even about that. If they ever topple Trump with anyone, Cruz is out next. When you look at the armies against Trump, no one else will survive.

I think the Cruz folks have some soul searching to do.

Folks, if the Washington Post is in your corner, there’s a reason for it.

You need to wake the hell up and understand why.

Also, isn’t it interesting how fast the media outlets responded to yesterday’s poll? Within minute they had articles written and up on the internet.

Now the Post and other papers are singing the praises of Ted Cruz.

Ted is now the MSM’s darling candidate?

Folks, seriously...

You can’t see that they want Cruz because they think they can take him out later? You can’t see this is a jobbed effort to take down Trump?

This does not end well.

It’s just like the WAPO endorsing McCain in the primary...remember how that turned out?

The press knows that Cruz has virtually NO cross-over voter potential. All a Dem candidate would have to do is protect their ‘own’ and it’s in the bag.

More dems support Trump because it wasn’t that long ago when he was pouring money to their cause. Hillary given a front row seat at his wedding? he supported TARP? stimulus and auto bailout and not clear on ethanol subsidies. GO CRUZ

We have heard that same old canard over and over. Cruz and his wife were both big Bushies.

No thanks.

Still way too early to call this. There has not yet been any direct confrontation between Herself and any of the major contenders in the Republican slate. Do we know, on the basis of ANYTHING, that Ted Cruz would simply surrender to Herself?

The last actual Republican that Herself faced on a debate stage was Rick Lazio, in September 2000, and the initial assessment after the debate was that Lazio had won the debate on points. But that was not how the optics played out later on, as the confrontation on stage as Lazio walked over to Herself’s podium, with a piece of paper in his hand, and asked Herself to sign a pledge, with him, on campaign finance reform, was swiftly reframed as “hitting the girl”, and Lazio was pictured as a “creep”.

He lost the election in November 2000 by 12 points.

That’s what they THINK.

But they don’t KNOW, and they haven’t assessed Cruz properly, yet. He will be deadly against them.

"and he would probably issue some factual statements about failures of government and then when it comes to TV debates, leave her helpless both in her inability to tell the truth and his courtroom style that would enable him to rebut her lies and "look squirrel" track jumping responses" Unfortunately that is not enough in 2016. She has a squad of press "cleaning men" that can brush over that easy breezy. Cruz will complain about it, but he will be ignored. Cruz will just be left reacting to Hillary's attacks, which will be the main story, and only talk radio will be impressed with his responses.

The solution to beat the Dems is to nuke them from orbit.

That is a euphemism for Trump/Cruz or Cruz/Trump.

Its the only way to be sure.
