There is no doubt that Trump has carried the fight to the media. No one -- not even Cruz -- has rallied to Trump's forays. With illegal immigration, the consensus was condemnation of Trump, and while Cruz signaled support, he didn't get into the fight. With the exception of the aftermath of San Bernardino, most other candidates have distanced themselves from Trump or been barely audible. Cruz and Carson, and sometimes Fiorina, have been in the barely audible camp.
If Trump had not been in this race, Cruz would have been insignificant by now. He didn't have the firepower to withstand the establishment onslaughts and the media onslaughts that would have come his way.
Cruz remains relevant in this race purely because Trump has paved the way for him. That does not detract from his intelligence, policies, etc. In one sense, it means he read the terrain correctly and responded accordingly.
But he is the BENEFICIARY of Trump and not the instigator of or companion warrior with Donald Trump.
If I were Trump, I would pick Cruz as running mate, not because he'll deliver Texas -- because Texas will go Republican no matter who the candidate -- but because he is now the heir of the social conservative/Christian conservative base. Carson would split off some blacks, and Fiorina would split off some women, but Cruz is now the focal point for Christian Conservatives.
You are presenting facts not in evidence....just a theory....that can be picked apart, even as it has a smidgeon of validity to it.
I’m starting to agree with you.
I have always supported Sarah Palin above any other candidate, I would even have supported her as a presidential candidate over Trump. Big time.
I supported her as Trump’s VP running mate. But I am starting to think maybe Cruz is a good choice.
Maybe. It’s still very early, but I’m starting to think Cruz might be a good choice.
Good Morning Preacher,
I can add absolutely nothing to your precise analysis, well said and well done.
And Merry Christmas!! ;)
I have dismissed such as wishful and simple minded thinking; but, I am coming to think about it as an increasingly possible scenario. Of course, it hinges on what Cruz sees as his path forward in 2016 and beyond.
To this point, Trump has broken new ground. His next book should be "The Art of the Narrative." He's got the MSM devoting whole news cycles to his Tweets and one liners. Unprecedented, it is.
Being unprecedented, it's also uncharted. No one can know if it is sustainable. We do not know what we don't know.
I suspect the "conventional wisdom" about picking a VP might be passe' as well. The fact that no bridges have been burned, give some credence in my mind to such a possibility.
And while the idea of Cruz as AG or CJ of SCOTUS is very attractive, the seat "one heartbeat away" is becoming more intriguing.
If you were Cruz why would you want it? Ted Cruz wants to be president. Being vice-president is not a path to that in the best of circumstances. Being vice-president to someone like Trump who completely sucks the air out of every room he enters would mean eight years of being a total non-entity. Eight years of hewing to Trump's less-than-conservative line and loyally supporting the administration. And that would kill any chances Cruz ever had of being president himself.
