Poll: Trump nears 50% in 3-way race, GOP likes 'strong, bold' over 'conservative'

Republican front-runner Donald Trump captures 45% of the GOP vote in a three way race with Sens. Ted Cruz and Marco Rubio, the latest sign that party voters are ready to accept the outspoken real estate developer as their 2016 nominee.

A new YouGov.com poll finds that in the three-way race, a potential situation after the first several primaries, Trump's support from those backing other candidates surges equally with Cruz and Rubio.

And the reason, according to the new survey? Republicans appear more interested in having a "strong" and "bold" leader than a "true conservative."

According to the poll, Trump wins strong and bold hands down, while Cruz is seen as the true conservative. Rubio wins the title of "typical politician" and "establishment candidate" in YouGov's test of candidate descriptions.

"Ted Cruz is seen as the 'true conservative' of the race, but a 'strong' Donald Trump maintains a wide lead," said the poll analysis.

Funny that although they’re a little nervous, the GOPe still thinks it’ll probably still be Bush that gets the nomination.

I think the problem is the term “Conservative” has become so abused by the DC Political machine it has lost all meaning.

Today you can be Pro Big Govt or anti Big Govt and call yourself a “Conservative, you can be Pro Interventionist Foreign Policy or against it and call yourself “Conservative”, Pro or anti Amnesty and be called a “Conservative”, pro or anti activist Judiciary and be called a “Conservative”

The media continue their long-form tantrum because they are not getting their horse race.

As I’ve been saying, elected Republicans have DESTROYED the Conservative brand via two decades of continual kowtowing to the C of C, and George W. refusing to hit back during eight years of vicious Liberal attacks.

A right-leaning Populist is the best we can hope for at this time. We have a long, hard road again re-educating the populace about Conservatism.

The poll:

Plenty of good news for Trump and Cruz.
Bad news for everyone else.

‘Oh my. What will the Cruz supporters say today?’

“I can’t believe morons are falling for this liberal sleaze.”

Or some close variation on that theme.

Correction: America (not the GOP) prefers “strong and bold” to conservative. I would prefer both, actually.

From the article:
Cruz has recently been surging and it appears that is because he is viewed the most favorably. In this poll, he was tops in favorability, at 51 percent. Trump is at 42 percent and Rubio at 35 percent.
I say Trump is a fraud - if he gets the nomination you will be sad when he goes to the left and would be a totally untrustworthy president.
He could never get away governing like Obama because gop would help dems impeach and convict him.
Trump apparently does get away now with acting like Obama - he is more Alinsky and divisive than Obama.
Voting hasn’t started. I believe Cruz will take him out.
So, proceed with your usual name calling, insulting my intellect and defending the indefensible about your guy. It is always awesome to see freepers mimic their hero with the same Alinsky tactics.

Maybe ‘I am sure a personality cult presidency will work better for the republicans than it did for the democrats’?

Wait, no, that isn’t what a Cruz supporter would say...

“Oh my. What will the Cruz supporters say today?”

Here is what this Cruz supporter says....You get what you vote for. You want a liberal north eastern Republican nominee, than vote for him. Trump is playing the GOP base for a fool. He is nothing like what he says he is. Once he has secured nomination, he swing left. It’s who is.

Cruz supporters??? Please. Trump is the one full of insults and his sheep follow his ways.

At least Ted Cruz was never a Democrat and partied with the Clintons.
