It’s time to start speculating about Donald Trump’s vice presidential pick
The Washington Post ^ | February 23, 2016 | Chris Cillizza

On "Morning Joe" Tuesday morning, host Mika Brzezinski threw out an interesting theory: Donald Trump and Marco Rubio are playing nice with one another — and savaging Ted Cruz — because a backroom deal has been cut between the two to form a ticket with Trump as the presidential nominee and the Florida senator as the second in command.

I don't think that deal has been cut. But Brzezinski's speculation did get me to thinking about whom Trump might pick as his vice president. (For those of you who think such speculation is premature, I say (1) it sort of is and (2) read this.)

Like it or not, Trump is almost certain to be the nominee. Time to start the next phase of the campaign.

I think he goes with Omarosa and wins 44 states.

The only way that deal could be cut is PRIOR to Florida primary. Then it’d be turn out the lights, the party’s over time.

Trump fans here have already been “speculating” for months that it will be Ted Cruz, so Ted needs to “clear up” the birther issue and grovel before Trump for forgiveness for the privilege of being Trump’s water boy. But no Cruz supporter has shown the slightest interest in Cruz having this “honor”, so they’ve replaced it with the “vote Trump and you’ll get Cruz on SCOTUS” talking point.

I really don’t think he’ll pick Rubio. He needs someone with more experience, not a first-term Senator who skipped showing up for work a bunch (Cruz also fits that bill).

He’ll pick whoever he picks. All this speculating in the press just helps them keep their bread buttered. They’ve been wrong about everything else in this election, and I bet they’re wrong about whatever they come up with here, too.

Trump will most likely choose someone who can be easily manipulated- like Rubio. I hope that Cruz will prevail and we will get a Constitutional Conservative as a nominee.

Not gonna be Ted, no chance, no way. Much more likely to be Rubio.

It will never be Marco Rubio. Rubio represents everything we do NOT want!

Should be Jeff Sessions.

I’d like to see a Trump - Carson ticket.
Diametrically opposed outsiders crushing the establishment.

You have been warned (repeatedly): Rubio.

Not my choice. But if Rubio beats out Cruz it may be the choice that Trump will make. OTOH, if Cruz beats out Rubio then we may get the Dream Team (for most).

What makes you think that? I think he won’t pick anyone he was competing with. Out of all of them, I think Kasich would be the only one with any chance of being picked, and that’s mostly because:

1) He’s got a generally likable personality
2) He’ll help Trump win Ohio
3) He’s got executive government experience

With that all said, I don’t think it will be Kasich. Maybe someone like him, with similar experience, but not him. This campaign has been pretty ugly, Trump will want to bring in someone fresh so the Dems will have to do their own opposition research, not just rehash everything we’ve been over in the primaries to a general election audience.
