The United States Concealed Carry Association itself warns: Carrying a concealed weapon can be very dangerous if you are not well trained.
To which a growing number of states are saying, So what?
On Saturday, West Virginia became the eighth state to do away with training or any other requirements for the concealed carrying of firearms, despite safety worries voiced by police officers. Because the states legislature overrode a veto by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, most people over 21 soon will be able to tote hidden guns even if they have no idea what do do with them in a crisis situation.
Seeing how trained police officers can make mistakes, imagine untrained citizens with guns stepping into a situation where shots are being fired. We think can be very dangerous sums it up well and at least one new study says that is exactly true.

So some talking head in Chicago thinks that people in West Virginia don’t know how to handle guns?Seriously?
I sort of agree with this. I see far too many idiots that have little to no safety training. I was drilled early on about firearms safety, at the time I thought it was over the top, but now I see the wisdom in my fathers lectures...
Same old, tired, worn out demagoguery. Blood in the streets, gunfights over parking spaces and fender benders, ad nauseum.
Armed private citizens, trained or not, are less dangerous than armed criminals with no opposition.
I just hope we can provide adequate training for the Thugs n Gangstas....that will take care of 90% of the problem.
Noam Sain?
Not nearly as dangerous as walking in parts of D.C., Chicago, New York, Detroit, L.A., etc. without one...
LOL — What a picture...the personification of STUPIDITY!
whether one agrees with mandatory training or not, common sense says training and range time are key.
try again, the flash didn’t go off
Toting a stupid president without a brain is worse...and we still have a few months left worring about that cretin.
More “blood in the streets” rhetoric that’s not supported by any facts. Several states have enacted permitless concealed carry and haven’t had these problems. Apparently the newspaper feels that Chicago residents aren’t as smart as those from other areas.
Part of the article talks about a study of 77 people in Montgomery County Maryland in a simulator and the armed citizen is killed by a carjacker or armed robber.
What this doesn’t tell/show is that the other party (the perp) is trained and knows they are not going to die because it is a simulator. Most criminals have never had a victim pull a gun on them, are not trained and generally don’t want to die.
Though not the ideal situation to not have significant training, is being an unarmed victim better?
“Armed private citizens, trained or not, are less dangerous than armed criminals with no opposition.”
Can you cite the study?/s
I saw an FBI report several years ago about first shot hit rate of thugs compared to cops.
Thugs hit rate was above 75%, cop rate was under 30%.
Wonder who does thug gun training, they should be the ones conducting firearms training.
Bloomburg and his toads wasted a LOT of money here. It didn’t work.
That’s the perfect picture for the “Smile... Wait for Flash” muzzle message.
A) The Chicago Sun Times can suck it.
B) These antigun pieces convince no one and only increase the pro-freedom resolve.
C) The Chicago Sun Times can suck it.
D) Michael Bloomberg (as close to being a James Bond villain as you can be without being George Soros) can suck it.
E) The Chicago Sun Times can suck it.
I wonder how that correlates to shooting into crowds versus single moving targets...
