What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

Clearly you are not reading any of the Trump supporters’ threads or comments. Or you are certainly not with an open mind...If you were, then you would not be making comments like you “don’t understand how otherwise intelligent people”...yadayada. If you would actually read why people are supporting Trump, you would understand.

When you say things like “Trump supporters are no better than Obama sycophants that suck up to obama,” that is not particularly nice...Not necessarily hateful, but interesting that and many Cruz supporters don’t seem to notice the threads full of hate towards Trump and his supporters...but Trump supporters do.

Instead of posting a “What has happened to Free Republic” thread, I respectfully suggest you actually take some time to try to read with an open mind Trump threads in order to understand why people (including Jim Robinson) see merit in Trump. Jim has even opined that a Trump/Cruz ticket would be his dream ticket.

Trump found the key to overcoming the liberal media and talking directly to men.

We need men to out-vote women this time.

Keep in mind, all that time he was donating, Trump was not running for anything. He was using politicians to get business done.

So that makes it okay then - he's someone willing to screw the rest of us over for his own personal profit - and we should vote for him for that reason? Amazing logic.

I like Ted Cruz, Mark Levin. I also like Trump. And yes
some of the Trump supporters act like little punks sometimes
but everyone knows they’ve thrown all in for him to
the point that they
couldn’t face the embarrassment if he looses so they attack
any and all rivals, sorta like liberals do.
But it’s all good, don’t let it get to you.
Just remember, the founding fathers fought, argued and cussed at each other for a long time in that old school
house and came up with the greatest document ever crated
,second only to the word of god.

My comment was responding to a post that was insulting Trump supporter. For yours ridicule works if it’s delieved well and based on a nugget of truth. Trump is a master of linguistic kill shots. His latest is directed at Hillary: No Strenght and stamina.

I proudly voted for Ted Cruz for senator and I’m going to vote for him for president, come hell or high water.

He is the ONLY candidate...or senator...who has done EXACTLY what he promised he would. He has been blocked and vilified by the GOPe and I was very upset when he was vilified by the people here who I consider FRiends.

But I’m GOING to vote for him. Period!

So you figure it’s better to do the bidding of the corrupt political establishment and help them plan and execute a premeditated plot to thwart the will of the voters?

Cutting deals with the demokkkrats would be FAR better than the current rinos that let imam zero and his crew butt rape them and then they say “may I have some more please, sir!?”
Half -black George Wallace and his crew can KMA!

Not exactly. Just trying to point out political reality/history to those who forgot it or never knew it.

Lots of people wondering the same thing - you are far from alone. It certainly isn’t the same place it was when I first came here via the “White Water File” back around 18 years ago now...it’s not even the same place it was one year ago. Somehow now the solution to the “establishment” is to go full on big government statism for a substantial number of people. These types were always around from time to time, but it was normally a fleeting minority that were just a nuisance.

Knowledge and fact have been tossed aside...for example the other day some of us were being blasted as stupid for suggesting Puerto Rico had ever been part of the United States (its only been part of the U.S. for 118 years now...) - that’s the substance of the type of conversations becoming common place. Before, candidates who supported organizations like Planned Parenthood were rightfully abhorred - now people fully embrace and praise him for praising the organization. It’s okay he has supported ultra liberal candidates and policies for decades because he was a “businessman” - and of course, the best kinds of businessmen are those that work to screw over the entire rest of the country for his own personal profit (but supposedly wouldn’t do that with the power of political office...he’d a be a different person there - for some reason). Private property rights and 1st amendment rights are no longer important - if you think they are, you are now a RINO / GOPe operative. And the list goes on and on.

Perfect

I’ve said here many times had Trump been in political office the last 20 years based on most of his political beliefs, he would be, at best, a RINO, or a liberal Democrat.
I’ve actually had people here tell me his past positions and statements don’t matter it’s what he’s saying now is what we should listen to. One even claimed that his threat to sue media outlets that print negative stories about him was actually restoration of the First Amendment. Some have even suggest he go around Congress to if he must in order to “Make America Great Again.” BHO believes the very same thing. The GOPe us to blame for his rise. And we all have anger for not only the GOP but the political elites in general. Fortunately, the electorate also shared our disdain. Trump has capitalized on that anger successfully, at least in the GOP primaries.

But, if elected, we don’t know what Trump we will end up with.

Trump criticized Romney in 2012 for being too harsh on illegal aliens, with his “self-deportation” ideas. Sometime between then and the start of his current political campaign, Trump switched over to supporting border and immigration enforcement. Quite a philosophical reversal for a man of his age.

I did what you are going to do. I voted for Cruz on Tuesday and my vote helped him win the district in which I live. I will vote for him in November as well, come hell or high water. He IS the closest thing we’ve had to Reagan since Reagan. Like Reagan, he is not perfect, but he loves the One who is and he loves our Republic. He strives to always keep his promises and he won’t change his core principles to “impress” people with his own greatness. That’s quite enough for me.
