What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

If you had such a problem with Jim banning/suspending Tramonto for his comments, why didn't you include him with your fascist book burning comment that you directed towards me.

And what evidence to you have to support your accertion? I can point to Cruz cheer leading for TPA/TPP, his vote to reauthorize the Patroit Act, vote for the Corker Amendment, supporting amnesty for illegals and the fact that there is no way in hell Cruz is a natural born citizen under original intent as evidence that he is NOT a constitutional conservative. Add to that the fact that the Bush family is now pushing Cruz makes the evidence over whelming that Ted Cruz is a uniparty globalist.

You are floundering or you don’t understand the business environment for real estate in NYC. There is no either or. You need to work with them and donations are quid pro quo. That’s the markers part, if anything they owe him he doesn’t owe them.
I wouldn’t count on politicians after the scent of the donation fades and since Trumph’s savvy neither would he but the fact of the donation still gives him a bit of leverage and they have none.

Well, apparently they are allowed to be a total @$$ too.

Good grief, you are not a nice person are you. Your response to me is proof of what I’m saying. I try to be nice and you just respond visciously and quite unneccesarily. You need to get some help if you are that mad, and angry, that you feel the need to go off on someone like you did to me, when there is a disagreement.

And that’s what that was, FYI. A DISAGREEMENT. There’s no need to be rude.

You owe it to yourself to look at the facts not the MSM. Trump, the Long Road to the White House 1980-2016 . Donald Trump’s reluctant candidacy as shown through the years. To listen to him in 1980 is to hear him now; he is saying the same things.

$35 million of attack ads in Florida that Trump withstood in the last few weeks! And he won by almost 20%.

Won every county except Miami Dade! Got to love it!

Can you explain Trump’s 60+ percent negative rating?

No because he doesn't have one, you are living in the "way back" machine (aka the past). Trump polls as 66 Favorable; 33 unfavorable, the best of the GOP candidates ( see post 149 of 771)

We had a great opportunity to get a great conservative in office

Problem is if we had gotten your great conservative into office nothing would have changed, just like all the great conservatives we got into office in the past the uni-party would have co opted him or he would have spun his wheels. I do not believe Cruz is a great conservative and I think he has already demonstrated alliances with the uni-party but even if I'm wrong what he hasn't demonstrated is the ability to get things done.

Besides his recent rhetoric, what makes you believe he is pro life? We know that he has been pro abortion until very recently but what changed? Why should we trust him? Its a convenient convrrsion for him.

ERGH, just recently is 2000 to you? Trump was on records as hating abortions even before 2000 he just believed at that point that as a man he had no right to interfere with the woman's right to chose (aka murder her fetus). In 2000 he realized that he needed to stand up against abortion and take the heat from Woman's Rights groups and did so.

Even the video in 1999 that people use to say Trump supports abortions has been trimmed deceptively. The whole video shows him saying I hate abortions with my whole heart.

Links to Trump's Position on Unborn life have been posted before by me and by other freepers, start here.. The fuller interview with Tim Russert from 1999 was posted in the last few days and I will link it when I confirm which of several recent you-tube videos contains it.

Trump has committed to defund PP when he becomes President. He says he has seen evidence that they have done good work on cervical cancer but if they are in the abortion business he will defund them. I think he understands. Trump is a very forthright man and he is telling what he believes is the whole truth, giving them credit for what his sources say they have done well while decrying the whole. It would be easier to just write them off but not only is his way more honest it avoids allowing people to demonize him as unreasoning.

Trump will need to deal with the Democrats and that's not a bad thing..

deal with something to take action to do something, especially to solve a problem

deal with something to accept and control a difficult emotional situation so that you can start to live a normal life again despite it

deal with vb (tr, adverb) 1. to take action on: to deal with each problem in turn. 2. to punish: the headmaster will deal with the culprit. 3. to be concerned with: the book deals with Dutch art. 4. to conduct oneself (towards others), esp with regard to fairness: he can be relied on to deal fairly with everyone. 5. (Commerce) to do business with: the firm deals with many overseas suppliers.

My issue was more with you revelling in the banning of a long time and respected poster of this forum.

It’s JR’s forum, he can do whatever he wants whether I agree with it or not. But someone celebrating and deriving “Schadenfreude” from it is mindless and juvenile and illustrates the attitude of all too many Trumpophiles.

This isn’t a freakin game, the future of this country is at stake and the people who oppose Trump and what he stands for have very legitimate concerns.

No. The way the Canadian law works, if you are born to a non-Canadian mother in Canada you have dual citizenship. However, Cruz's parents thought they had to positively affirm the desire to take the Canadian citizenship, and since they did not do that, they thought Ted only had US citizenship. A Dallas newspaper researching a piece about him in 2013 found out that the Canadian citizenship actually had been automatic which made him a dual citizen. So he went ahead and renounced it which became official sometime in 2014.

The above is just not true. I don't know where some of these ideas came from.

At the time when Ted Cruz was born there was no dual citizenship in Canada (Immigration and Nationality Act of 1952 was the law in force) and the Cruz parents did indeed need to chose. To receive a Canadian BC for Ted they had to chose Canadian citizenship for him. On 15 February 1977, a new "Citizenship Act" came into force. From that date, multiple citizenship became legal but it was not retroactive.
