Ted Cruz questioned John Kasich's decision to stay in the presidential race Monday, openly speculating that Kasich may want to be Donald Trump's vice president.
Cruz also definitively told Fox News that if Kasich were not in the race, he would be able to hit the 1,237 delegate benchmark to clinch the Republican nomination before the convention. The Texas senator's declaration came not long before his scheduled address before the American Israel Public Affairs Committee's policy conference.
"Either scenario is possible," Cruz said regarding his chances of winning the nomination outright or at a contested convention. "I think we have a clear path to 1,237, and we are fighting hard. If John Kasich were not in the race, we would get to 1,237. It is possible. Kasich's role is a spoiler."
When FNC's Bret Baier asked him why Kasich was staying in the race, Cruz said that he really didn't have a good idea before bringing up the possibility of being on Trump's general election ticket.
"I have no good explanation," Cruz said. "Maybe he's auditioning to be Donald Trump's vice president. Every vote for Kasich is a vote for Donald Trump."
"If Kasich were not in the race, I'd be very confident we'd get to 1,237," Cruz said. "If he stays in the race, I think we still can, but it's a more difficult path."
The uppity son of a mail man eh?
talent skips a generation
Does Goldman Sachs screw eyes Heidi have a role in the ‘Havana Cabana’!!?
screwy.
Rubio probably didn’t believe hime either.
Kasich is going to be Trump’s VP if Trump gets the nomination.
Kasich is an insider and Trump needs an insider to learn the ropes in DC.
Kasich can deliver Ohio and some other purple Midwest states.
Kasich is from the left of center big government with a big heart wing of the Republican party, just like Trump.
Kasich is drawing the liberal Rubio and Bush votes away from Cruz, making it much easier for Trump to pick up delegates.
Kasich and Trump are already working together. Trump dropped out of the latest Fox forum and Kasich immediately followed suit, denying Cruz an important debate in the narrowed field. Coincidence?
Different men have been found to fold under pressure in many ways. Some roll over, belly up. Some plan a strategy in folding so none may sit on them.
Sen Ted would be best serving Sen Ted if he took a different path than the one now on. He has become lost in the weeds. This being said, only if what is stated are facts that are true. What does the Washington Examiner truth meter show these days?
LOLOLOL - good point. Genius Harvard debate champion doesn't notice he's contradicted himself within 15 seconds.
There have been too many debates. Just how many does it take to make a decision? Most people I know have had their decision made for months.
Was he holdin’ a bible when he said that?
She’s the producer of the play, the money.
Ditto Ditto Ditto on all you said.
A Kasich add as VP would poison the Trump ticket for me. Anyone else? I think Carson or maybe even Cruz would be far better at this point.
You make some good points, but Kasich is really out of line with Trump’s policies on trade and immigration. Of the top 3 contenders, I consider Kasich the only one that has experience that makes him qualified.
Cruz and Rubio have managed their senate staffs and Cruz managed 13 government lawyers both at the FTC and in Texas. Not enough experience to run the federal government.
Kasich on the other hand has been a governor and has investment banking experience and served 9? terms in congress. That investment banking experience gives Kasich a leg up on economic matters, but Kasich still stupidly embraces free trade. Maybe Trump can teach him.
I suppose Trump could do worse than Kasich.
TOOK 200,000 FROM SOROS. THAT’S ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THIS IDIOT.
ROFLMAO!
That should be a big hint that the GOPe do not want Cruz or they would just encourage Kasich to drop out and let Cruz win, after all it is anyone but Trump right?
