"This Is Devastating News For Republicans": Poll Finds Denying Trump Nomination Would Crush GOP
ZeroHedge.com ^ | 04/09/2016 | Tyler Durden

In the latest shock for the GOP, which in recent weeks some have speculated is willing to scuttle the entire republican presidential campaign if it means not having Trump as the candidate, according to a just released Reuters poll, one third of Republican voters who support Donald Trump could turn their backs on their party in November's presidential election if he is denied the nomination in a contested convention.

Or, as The Hill puts it, "blocking Donald Trump from the Republican presidential nomination with a contested convention would spell disaster for the GOP" because instead Trump supporters would vote Democrat, vote third-party or sit out the election.

Just 66% of Trump supporters, which as of this moment are the most numerous of any presidential candidate, said they would support the GOP's nominee anyway.

Should it get to a contested convention, the GOP could be hurt even more in November because 58% of Trump supporters said they would stay with the party, while 16% would leave and 26% responded they didn't know, yet.

The results are bad news for Trump's rivals as well as party elites opposed to the real estate billionaire, suggesting that an alternative Republican nominee for the Nov. 8 presidential race would have a tougher road against the Democrats.

“So what did they expect? Did they expect the party that they detest to simply roll over for the people who hate it? To go away meekly because “the masses” are out to destroy it? Whether they should have done that is irrelevant — expecting them to do that is just naïve.”

It’s not the party, it’s Ted Cruz. As I said, Cruz lost and is now trying to make Donald Trump lose the general election.

“It is pretty clear that a lot of his supporters don’t really like the GOP as a party at all, and that was true even before this primary season. They actually detest it.”

It’s republican voters who hate the Republican Party. I guess you missed the tea party, the election Eric Cantor lost, etc.

Ted Cruz has no more "lost" than Ronald Reagan "lost" prior to the 1976 Convention. Reagan entered the 1976 Convention without enough committed delegates, and while having won fewer states, fewer delegates, and fewer voters than had Ford. But he didn't give up either. There was a floor fight, and a lot of backdoor politicking for uncommitted delegates before Ford finally managed to secure the nomination.

It’s republican voters who hate the Republican Party. I guess you missed the tea party, the election Eric Cantor lost, etc.

Look, I lean Tea Party myself, but the truth is that there are only 70-odd members of the House Freedom Caucus, less than a third of total Republican House members. If Tea Partiers were a majority within the party, they'd probably be a majority within the GOP Causus as well.

The unpleasant truth is that most GOP voters are not Tea Partiers.

Well said.

And some of us have detested the GOPe ever since they took the side of illegal aliens against Americans back during the Prop 187 fight in 1994.

If people wonder how we ever got the huge illegal alien population that’s now in the country it’s because we have had two parties of treason ruling us for a very long time.

Deflection and insults!

Yep; typical response from the Cruztian cultists.

You didn’t answer my question.

If Trump gets denied the nomination, the replacement is going to be crushed because huge swaths of his base are going to stay home.

And you’re repeatedly claiming that Trump can’t win either.

Seems to me that your claims are that Hillary is inevitable.

Am I wrong?

You’re wrong.

I never said Hillary was “inevitable.” My point is there is nothing... nada... nichts.. in the way of any data anywhere that shows Trump can beat her.

And no matter how much you or anyone else may wish it otherwise... that is the fact you must square with.

Logical fallacy: Changing the subject.

Again, nothing I didn’t expect from a shill like you.

Let’s make this simple.

Can your candidate win the general?

I posit to you that the answer is no, especially considering this article.

The logical conclusion is that Hillary is inevitable.

Instead, the Democrat vote machine in the Wisconsin Big Cities crossed over for Cruz - because HE is the weaker candidate...

Well said. My, how the truth hurts!

Can your candidate win the general?

Let me realllllllyyy simplify it for you.

Compared to Trump, the answer is "HELL YES."

Logical Fallacy: Appeal to authority. IE: “Because I said so.” Oh, and changing the subject, because you didn’t answer my question; you only deflected again to slam Trump.

Your comments show classic avoidance of the question.

In other words, your boy can’t win with all the annoyed Trump voters sitting out.

You’d better start mending fences and fast or else you’ll get Hillary. You’d better get started; there’s a couple hundred thousand people to go.

Oh, and protip: Condescending comments from start to finish aren’t going to cut it.

GOPeeRs would rather see the entire country razed to the ground than submit to Trump's nomination.

Aside from professional/amateur GOPe shills, only true sociopaths believe that Cruz has a chance against the DnC rats and their demingods...

>>The stupid party doesn’t realize

That’s Demoralization for ya.

It’s self-evident The Party(tm) has been thinking with the little head between its legs for quite a while - instead of the other organ God created for that purpose.

The smart thing to do is to write in Trump and vote the rest of the ticket to “fire” the establishment.

I will vote Trump (even if I have to write him in) and for my US Congressman, who has endorsed him.

The rest of my ballot will be for the acceptable third party candidates or left blank.

No more support for the GOP.

Trump would make a marvelous mess of things while, yes, Cruz is a solid conservative despite the twbloid attacks against him.

Sorry. Cruz is a lying nonconservative who is not eligible for the presidency.

Cruz is ineligible, no matter how many treasonous amoral liars-for-hire & slimy, hate America judges claim otherwise...
