Trump: You Bet I Support Raising Taxes on the Rich
Townhall ^ | 04/21/2016 | Guy Benson

GUTHRIE: Do you believe in raising taxes on the wealthy?

TRUMP: I do. I do – including myself. I do.

That was...this morning, in an interview that featured some other controversial statements.  In fairness to Trump, he's been using the "raise taxes on rich people like me" line for months, embracing Obama-style class warfare tax gimmicks like the 'Buffet Rule.'  But raising taxes on anyone, an outcome Trump just re-endorsed, is not what his formal policy agenda proposes.  Just the opposite.  As we've seen on issues such immigrationabortion and foreign policy, Trump routinely makes clear that he isn't familiar with his own positions.  His stances aren't rooted in conviction, coherent ideological underpinnings or governing philosophy.  They "evolve" and morph depending on how Trump is feeling in any given moment.  Some professed conservatives may be perfectly comfortable voting for a tax-hiking, entitlement reform-opposing critic of Ronald Reagan's tax cuts.  But many Republicans, including a 62 percent majority of GOP primary voters thus far, aren't eager to turn the keys of the party over to someone whose record and current statements build a strong case against the proposition that he's reliable conservative -- or much of a conservative at all.  Parting thought: It's astonishing that this man appeals to people who loathe establishment "insider" types.  Earlier in the answer above, longtime Democratic donor chuckles with multimillionaire celebrity newsman Matt Lauer about all the fancy parties they've attended together with hotshot bankers in New York.  Man of the people.

There are points where we need to stop acting like the eccentric rich.

The truth is not in you.

You literally quoted yourself lying about Trump and partial birth abortion, and produced only one post with the tax-distortion when you claim you've been talking about it for 6 months.

I know it’s OK here at FR to insult Cruzers. Even though there are thousands of us here. But when you use anti-Cruz propaganda - ON THIS THREAD OF ALL PLACES - don’t you wonder if that is effective or even wise?

“Eff you Cruzers - You’re not welcome. But your money is.”

smh

But it's a fresh controversy since Cruzers are low info.

It's fresh because it is reported TODAY. So it's in the news today. And we can discuss it today. That's how this place works.

Thank me.

I believe that this conflicts with the tax policy on his website. Not that that is in anyway surprising but just saying.

Do you really believe King Trumpy is going to build a wall? Neither party wants a wall and you think King Trumpy is going to just decree it?? Really??

Just out of curiosity, are you a supporter of the snake handling, philandering, booger eating, NWO wife having, incredibly disliked Rafael Cruz?

Stranger danger, and then overreaction when insufficiently warned children fall for dangerous strangers (who probably aren’t going to be obvious flamers).

I live in a place where there are kids playing in the yard when I return, and I once had a curious little girl follow me to my door asking questions. I dreaded a scene where I would be tagged as the nefarious one for this girl’s curiosity by adults who blame everything on everybody else except themselves. With an “excuse me” I parted company from her through my door, but I was really feeling uncomfortable about irresponsible adults. I couldn’t even say “little girl, be careful around strangers” because somebody might take that as a hint or a threat.

We can’t legislate all evil out of existence. We can try to take proper care of children that are in our care.

You crack me up. The ‘gotcha’ articles are simply reporting all the liberal positions Trump took in his town hall today on NBC.

My other favorite Trump guy defense mechanism is ‘Trump is just moving to the center as he approaches the general; all politicians do that’.

Ted Cruz don’t.

The solar panels, etc. You don’t do that when you don’t have money to burn.

The first item is where the rich pay more tax.
I would be fine with this, even if I paid more....

https://www.donaldjtrump.com/positions/tax-reform

1. Reducing or eliminating deductions and loopholes available to the very rich, starting by steepening the curve of the Personal Exemption Phaseout and the Pease Limitation on itemized deductions. The Trump plan also phases out the tax exemption on life insurance interest for high-income earners, ends the current tax treatment of carried interest for speculative partnerships that do not grow businesses or create jobs and are not risking their own capital, and reduces or eliminates other loopholes for the very rich and special interests. These reductions and eliminations will not harm the economy or hurt the middle class. Because the Trump plan introduces a new business income rate within the personal income tax code, they will not harm small businesses either.

2. A one-time deemed repatriation of corporate cash held overseas at a significantly discounted 10% tax rate. Since we are making America’s corporate tax rate globally competitive, it is only fair that corporations help make that move fiscally responsible. U.S.-owned corporations have as much as $2.5 trillion in cash sitting overseas. Some companies have been leaving cash overseas as a tax maneuver. Under this plan, they can bring their cash home and put it to work in America while benefitting from the newly-lowered corporate tax rate that is globally competitive and no longer requires parking cash overseas. Other companies have cash overseas for specific business units or activities. They can leave that cash overseas, but they will still have to pay the one-time repatriation fee.

3. An end to the deferral of taxes on corporate income earned abroad. Corporations will no longer be allowed to defer taxes on income earned abroad, but the foreign tax credit will remain in place because no company should face double taxation.

4. Reducing or eliminating some corporate loopholes that cater to special interests, as well as deductions made unnecessary or redundant by the new lower tax rate on corporations and business income. We will also phase in a reasonable cap on the deductibility of business interest expenses.

What do you think, of course the liberal media wants to gin something up between Trump and Cruz, because otherwise it will be manifest destiny for Trump.
