Renaissance Technologies, a hedge fund founded by billionaire James Simons, donated over $13 million to Sen. Ted Cruz’s failed presidential campaign. For a guy who’s supposed to be pretty smart with his money, the ROI on that one has got to sting. Nevertheless, now that Mr. Cruz is out of the race, Mr. Simons has begun pouring millions of dollars into Hillary Clinton‘s campaign, with Renaissance Technologies donating over $2 million to Ms. Clinton so far this election cycle. Euclidean Capital—also owned by Mr. Simons—has given the Clinton campaign over $7 million in contributions, and such figures are likely to increase as Ms. Clinton slowly transitions her attention from Democratic Primary opponent Bernie Sanders to the presumptive Republican presidential nominee, Donald Trump.

Tell me about Trump donating to Hillary Clinton, Harry Reid, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign, Al Sharpton, etc. I suppose that’s different?

Perhaps you can get "Roos" to 'splain it to you ...There is a huge difference between donating something for the sake of business and donating millions in an attempt to get a person elected to the Presidency.

The real question is how could a supposed Cruz supporter make such a big change in direction unless he doesn't see it as a big change....

It seems that for Mr. Trump it was simply the price of doing business in NY and NV. He has built large hotels in both states. We know why he made those “donations” I don’t think it is even close to the same seeing as Cruz was the person accepting the money...That’s the difference. Big difference. It certainly made me look at him a different way.

I have already made one possible explanation for why this guy did what he did. I also explained that I could never, even for the sake of my business, do what either this guy or Trump did by giving even a dime to the dems. I understand it, just couldn’t do it.

I’ve been told that what Trump did is different because he was paying off both at the same time instead of supporting one and then switching to the other. Also, because Trump gave double the amount to Republicans (including Charlie Crist, not sure if that counts) as he did to Democrats. And also because this gave has given millions and Trump only gave half a million over so many years.

I look at it in a different way.

I think they were propping up CRUZ because they thought if they were able to bring him into the nomination, then Hillary would easily beat him. They WANTED an easy target for Hillary.

Now they have a much more difficult task in taking down Trump. I think, contrary to popular media opinion, that Trump will be tough to beat. He plays a very different “game”.

I'm a little late to the discussion, but you seem to be confused between a monster donor, one who donated 13 million dollars in one primary campaign, and one who most often gives less than $2500, $10,000 when he gets excited, and I believe once gave $100,000.

The one kind of donor often demands major payback, the other is trying to get access and a little help from being totally taken out by whoever they donate to.

But there is a difference between protection/access and funding enough to get something seriously in return. 13 mil is pretty dang serious, and when that person turns and goes to Hillary, you know there was some expectation of a return in investment.

What’s 2500? Info I’ve read says Trump donated over 100k just to the Clinton Foundation, plus more to other dems. As I said previously, even a dime to the dems is too much.

His normal donation was 2500, not 13 mil like I said previously. The one hundred k was one time.

I already said that I didn’t like it, but neither you or myself had business that could be shut down by these monsters did we?

Do you still not get the difference between 2500 and 13 mil for one candidate? Or, even 13 million to one hundred thousand? Even though that one hundred thousand was supposed to go to help poor Haitians and others, it wasn’t supposed to be the fraud that it became, simply enriching the Clintons.

Here’s my thought. The 13 million guy thought Cruz was going to win, when it became clear Cruz wasn’t going to he believes that Clinton is going to beat Trump. To help his business he turns around and gives money to the next person he thinks is going to win. It *could* happen just like that, but it’s just a guess, just like every other theory of why the guy did what he did. To people who don’t like Cruz it is plausible he was donating to Cruz because they think Cruz was trying to help Hillary win.
I’m an engineer, I understand the difference between .5 million and 13 million and 2500. Melania’s wedding dress alone cost 100k; you think Billionaires care that much about 13 mill when it comes to helping a multi-billion $ company? 13 million is 1.3% of 1 billion, what’s the real net worth? 2 billion and the percentage goes down to 0.65%, and so on.

Thirteen mil for ONE candidate, in ONE primary. Then he went to Hillary. Which should give you pause........

.5 mil (one fifth of which is to the Clinton Fdn, remember?) over a lifetime, spread out with a ton of small donations.

Big difference ma'am. 26 times the amount for ONE primary, versus a lifetime (one fifth to the fdn.)

I realize you just don't want to attempt to understand that kind of mathematical difference. You just want to make the unsupportable case that they're the same, and it's so far from the truth, and you soldier on as if it is the same.

It's sort of like claiming the moon and the sun are really the same size.
