Odds are they really don’t, but somebody probably sued someone for not taking adequate precautions to protect an unstable individual while in custody. Things like this are usually the result of a CYA lawyer.
No, he had drugs on his person when the cops were called. Then he hit the LEO when they questioned him about the stabbing. It was one of his first run ins, and eventually turned into 6 months (served). He’s still on probation now that he’s been released. Not sure how long that will continue. I think about another year. It was a string of offenses, all drug related. Thankfully, one judge decided he needed to really put him in jail, which we had all been hoping for. When he was high, he was delusional and dangerous. Jail was the safest place for him. He is 1-1/2 years clean right now. Still praying that he stays that way, but who knows? Meth is nearly impossible to kick. We are praying he is one of the few percent who make it.

Come on. You’ve been on FR long enough to see the posts that drugs are a victimless crime. The guy is being prosecuted for using harmless recreational drugs. Ask any libertarian.
Hero is a word widely misused but I gladly apply it to him in this case.
